How to cut a pineapple. How to cut a pineapple correctly and lay it out beautifully

“Eat pineapples, chew hazel grouse, your last day is coming, bourgeois,” says the famous poem by the great poet Vladimir Mayakovsky. A lot has changed since this was written. Firstly, the word “bourgeois” has turned from a curse into an honorary title. Secondly, the “hazel grouse” ceased to be a mythical animal, but became “something like a chicken,” although it still did not go to the masses. And thirdly, pineapple is no longer a luxury item, but a means for weight loss, a delicacy and decoration for the holiday table of any average family. It is worth learning how to peel this fruit and how to cut it beautifully to suit the era.

Is it difficult to cut a pineapple at home?

In fact, not everyone can peel and cut this exotic fruit so as not to get dirty and exhausted. But there are some general cutting schemes and rules, the observance of which will save you from unnecessary hassle:

Step-by-step descriptions with photos

We've rounded up some simple but globally popular options for peeling and slicing pineapple. Try to master them, and soon this healthy and tasty fruit will take its rightful place on your table.

This is how to properly peel a pineapple

In fact, it is quite possible to cope with peeling a pineapple if you follow the generally accepted scheme for this, which must have been proven by centuries of experience of various tropical peoples, and do not try to twirl it in your hands and cut off the tough skin with a potato peeler.

Progress:

  1. We take a board, a large carving knife (aka “chef”) and a small knife, usually used for cutting eyes out of potatoes. Place the pineapple on a board and remove the bottom and leaves along with the top cap of the fruit.
  2. We put the fruit on the cut and cut off the tough skin, trying to “catch” as little pulp as possible.
  3. The result was a yellow “barrel” with dark spots. Using a small and sharp knife, we methodically remove these dark seals.
  4. We cut the “barrel” lengthwise into four parts, after which we remove the dense and fibrous core.
  5. We cut the fruit quarters into cubes or slices, depending on their further use.

Sliced pineapple can be added to salads, meat dishes, cold and hot desserts, cakes and pies. When serving it as an independent appetizer, take care of dessert forks or skewers to avoid wet cuffs and licked fingers.

You can also clean it beautifully: spiral patterns

  1. The beginning is the same as for the “barrel”: we place it on the board, cut off the bottom and the cap with leaves.
  2. We cut the pineapple and peel it.
  3. We lay it on its side and cut out the “eyes” diagonally to end up with a solid line-spiral.
  4. We divide the “little jar” into four parts.
  5. We remove the lighter and harder core.
  6. Divide the quarters in half.
  7. We cut the resulting blanks at our discretion, for example, into small pieces.

By the way, such a “barrel” with a spiral pattern can be cut crosswise into portioned circles, removing the core, and then put them back together, decorate this supposedly whole pineapple with its own top and place it in the center of the fruit dish.

Boats for the festive table

One thing can be said about this method of peeling and cutting pineapple: “First of all, it’s beautiful...”.

  1. Cut the unpeeled pineapple lengthwise into four pieces.
  2. Remove the hard core from each part.
  3. Separate the pulp from the skin in one piece, avoiding dark seals.
  4. Cut into slices, 1 cm thick. Slightly move the pieces in a checkerboard pattern. The result is elegant boats that will rightfully decorate and refresh the festive table.

Beautiful box with pieces of fruit

Making such a box from pineapple is quite simple, but it looks original and beautiful.

  1. Cut the unpeeled pineapple into two halves. It can be done lengthwise or across, depending on the size of your fruit.
  2. We cut out the whole flesh from each part into a rectangle, without damaging the bottom. To finally cut the cube of pulp from the skin, the cut must be made from the outside of the fruit parallel to the surface of the table.
  3. Remove the hard core.
  4. Cut the remaining pulp into cubes and arrange them in heaps in “boxes” made of hard peel.

You can add watermelon and melon cubes to these same boxes and serve them as dessert at the end of lunch. Don't forget to provide your meal participants with forks, skewers or toothpicks for added comfort.

Removing the pulp with a special knife

To peel and cut a pineapple really quickly and still remain dry and clean, you can use a special knife, in English-speaking people called a pineapple slicer. With the help of this miracle of technology, the middle and dark pimples are removed with a slight movement of the hand.

There is, however, some bad news: such a knife is rarely found in domestic stores, and its use requires skill, acquired at the cost of losing several fruits. So if you don’t eat pineapples every day, think for yourself, decide for yourself whether to have this device in your kitchen or not.

Video: principles of “pineapple cuisine” from Ilya Lazerson

Pineapple can be served very beautifully and romantically. This is what I do: I cut off the tail and base with a sharp knife, then lay it on its side and carefully cut out the flesh, without touching the walls. That is, you need to move a sharp knife in a circle parallel to the walls, trying to make them thinner. As a result, you will pull out a “column” of pulp and you will be left with a whole peel. Then you make circular cuts in the peel in a checkerboard pattern - directly in accordance with its structure. Place a warming candle in the center of the dish, around it there is a cut peel, a tail on top of it, and on the sides of the dish you place slices (the “column” of pulp should be cut into slices). That is, it turns out to be a magic lamp. I don’t know if I explained it clearly :))

Comma

oh-oh...well, they wrote it here)))) Have you been to Thailand? If so, haven’t you really paid attention to how the locals peel their pineapple? First cut off the lower part, place it vertically, cut off the skin with a sharp knife, holding it by the top of the head, but because... the brown one still remains, then they are cut out in a spiral like the eyes of a potato. 2-3 pieces at a time. And then in half and at will... True, Thai pineapples were not even close to Moscow rubbish.

In general, pineapple can be peeled or left as Mother Nature created it, chopped or served in large chunks, used as an ingredient or as a dish on its own. The main thing is that it is present on your menu, because this fruit is beautiful, tasty and very healthy.

Exotic things are in fashion: unusual things, products rarely found on store shelves. What is the interest? People are in search of new sensations, unknown tastes in food and other personal discoveries.

Many housewives want to surprise their loved ones with an unusual recipe. In search of non-standard solutions, they search through many books and browser pages. Once found, they spend a lot of time finding ingredients for non-standard dishes in grocery stores. The task is difficult and, unfortunately, few people cope with it.

If only there was a person who would suggest at the right moment that dishes with the most ordinary ingredients can be tasty and beautiful. You can make a dish original, even if it’s just a regular cut for the table. Here, for example, is pineapple. Once upon a time, the fruit was indeed rare and exotic. Only real “bourgeois” could gain access to it. What now? In any fruit department we can find this charming fruit.

A beautifully sliced pineapple can be an excellent decoration for a holiday table. But there is one catch: how to cut a pineapple beautifully? In fact, there is nothing simpler! Below we will present you several ways on how you can cut pineapple in an original way for a festive table and thereby surprise your guests.

Ways to cut a pineapple

There are a huge number of variations on the theme “how to beautifully cut a pineapple for a holiday table.” We have selected several of them for you. Which cutting style is best is up to you!

However, before we move on to the methods, I would like to leave a few tips that will help you do everything right:

  • You should not cut the fruit the day before the planned event. It's best if you leave the pineapple until your guests arrive. Prepare it in 15-20 minutes. This way the pineapple will be the juiciest and sweetest.
  • If you've ever tried to peel or cut a pineapple, you know it's not that easy. The peel of the fruit is quite rough and tough. To cope with a pineapple with a bang, you need to sharpen the knife very carefully.
  • After cutting off the skin of the fruit, you will be able to see brown “eyes” in the flesh, like spots on potatoes. They will need to be cut off. Firstly, they spoil the appearance of the pineapple. Secondly, they can affect the very refined taste of the fruit.
  • You've probably noticed the hard core of a pineapple. It is not suitable for consumption, so it is also better to cut it with a knife.
  • Finally, I would like to give advice not so much on cooking, but on eating pineapple. Don't eat too much fruit pulp. An unpleasant tingling sensation remains in the mouth, which will not be so easy to get rid of.

Now is the time to move on to cutting methods.

1 way

First of all, it should be said that for work we will need: a pair of knives (one large and sharp for cleaning, the other smaller for cutting out “eyes” from the pineapple pulp), a cutting board and a beautiful dish for decoration.

Step 1: First you need to cut off the top. Cut off the pineapple cap with green leaves with a sharp knife.

Step 2: Now you need to peel the pineapple. We recommend cutting lengthwise rather than crosswise. Cut off the horny part of the pineapple from top to bottom. Throw away the peel.

Step 3: As mentioned above, it is necessary to remove “eyes” that can affect the taste and appearance of the product. The work should be done with a small knife. And here there is a small catch. It is necessary to remove the “eyes” differently from the way we are used to doing it with potatoes. You need to remove them diagonally, cutting them sideways. It turns out to be a kind of spiral.

Step 4: Divide the fruit, peeled of all excess, in half.

Step 5: The hard middle must be removed. Carefully cut it with a knife without touching the flesh.

Step 6: Now divide the pineapple halves into 2 more parts in the same way. It turns out to be quite an interesting drawing, however, the idea is different.

Step 7: You, of course, can leave the quarters in such layers or cut them crosswise so that a nice pattern remains. We suggest cutting the spiral into small cubes. Pineapple pieces can be used as one of the ingredients for canapés. It will be very tasty if you combine pineapple with other fruits or berries.

Method 2

The second method is even simpler than the first. The technology is approximately the same. The difference is that in this method the pineapple pieces will be larger.

On a note! If you find it difficult to handle the pineapple (hold it while peeling), you can try cutting off the top cap at the very end of peeling. In this case, you will be able to more comfortably hold the fruit by its leaves.

Step 2: Finally, we peel the base using the same method (from top to bottom). Try to cut as little flesh as possible. Getting rid of unwanted “eyes”. Carefully cut them out with a small knife.

Step 3: Divide the pineapple into 4 parts. Cut off the hard center of the fruit. Further work is only your imagination. You can simply cut the pineapple into quarters, but it’s best for the housewife to experiment. It makes a beautiful cut. We are sure that you will have interesting cutting and design ideas that you can easily implement!

3 way

Set aside one part of the fruit (the one with the greens). We work with the other part in the same way as described in the previous method. Cut the peeled half into cubes. From the whole half we cut out the pulp and also cut into cubes. It turns out this beauty - a pineapple basket!

On a note! Diced pineapple can be used for salad or canapés. A basket of half a pineapple will look very original as a dish for other fruits or, for example, a salad.

Everything depends only on the imagination of the hostess. The options for decorating sliced pineapple are endless. The main thing is that cooking is a pleasure. Inspiration and delicious dishes to you!

Video: how to beautifully cut a pineapple for a festive table

An integral part of table setting for a holiday is the beautiful presentation of fresh fruit. And, of course, many housewives are interested in issues related to beautiful and, importantly, correct cutting of fruit. It is important that they not only look bright and festive on the table, combining them with the main dishes and the theme of the evening. It is important to remember that guests will want to not only admire them, but also try them. Therefore, it is necessary to cut fruits so that they are convenient to eat.

In the article we will talk about one of the popular representatives of the fruit world, who has become a regular at feasts and holidays. We will talk about how to cut a beautiful pineapple and serve it to the table.

Overseas guest

We all know that no matter how high-quality canned fruit is, when fresh it is more aromatic, healthier, and more beautiful in appearance. As in Europe, in our country pineapple most often appears on holiday tables in canned form. In this case, the question of how to properly peel and cut a pineapple disappears for housewives. But if you have already decided to pamper your guests with something delicious, then in the store feel free to walk past the shelves with canned goods and go to those racks where fresh fruits are located.

I must say that pineapple is simply ideal for holiday slicing. Not only can it serve as an independent dessert, it also harmonizes perfectly with meat dishes. And the non-standard shape of the fruit allows you to fulfill your culinary fantasies and offers many unusual cutting methods.

How to choose a pineapple

If you want a tropical guest not only to decorate the table, but also to be a delight for the lips of your guests, you should choose the right ripe and juicy pineapple. How to do it:

  • First, pay attention to the skin. For ripe fruit it will be dark golden. No green veins, “eyes” or “bumps”. The fruit must have green skins on top, but if you pull the leaf, it will easily come off.
  • Secondly, we smell the pineapple. A ripe fruit will have a sweetish, but unobtrusive smell. An unripe pineapple will “smell” something sour even from a distance.
  • Thirdly, the watermelon selection method works on pineapple. If you tap the fruit, you may hear a dull sound. This will indicate its ripeness. If the sound, on the contrary, is too bright and ringing, then the fruit in front of you is already overripe or even dried out.

But if in the case of a watermelon you can buy an unripe product and let it ripen on your balcony, then with a pineapple such a game will not work. If the fruit is unripe, then after it sits, it will not become riper.

Peeling and slicing pineapple

So, the choice has been made, now you can begin the cleaning procedure. The most popular method of peeling pineapple came to us from Thailand. There the fruit is peeled like potatoes. First, do not forget to cut off the top and bottom of the pineapple so that the edges are perfectly even and smooth.

How to cut a pineapple further, for beginners there are a lot of options - circles, cubes, semicircles, cubes, etc. Small square pieces of pineapple can be strung on a skewer and made into a popular canapé fruit snack.

Pineapple basket

Now we will tell you how to beautifully cut a pineapple to make an edible fruit basket. In this case, we will not peel the fruit. We cut it into two parts, first, of course, removing the top and bottom of the fruit. You will need to carefully cut out the pulp from each part of the pineapple. It can already be cut arbitrarily, we have already listed the options a little higher. Then put the chopped pieces back into the pineapple “dish”. In this form we serve it on the table.

Option "Melon"

To solve the dilemma - how to cut pineapple for the festive table so that it is convenient for guests to eat it - the following option is especially successful. It is called "South-Eastern" or "Melon".

Cut off the bottom part of the fruit. Cut the pineapple into four equal parts. The result is a kind of neat yellow boat. Now you need to cut the pulp so that you get triangles. The top part (also called the middle rod) can remain on the piece as a base that will hold the triangles. You can cut out the middle, but carefully so as not to damage the shape of the triangles. The pieces then need to be laid flat or in a checkerboard pattern.

The process takes a little longer than regular slicing, but the results are worth the time.

Now you know how to cut a pineapple beautifully so that it is convenient to eat, and not just admire the culinary masterpiece.

Rings

How about serving it in such a way that it takes little time, but at the same time looks original and unusual? The “Rings” option is the most popular and favorite among chefs.

First, you need to peel the pineapple. The skin is cut off like a potato. Then we place the fruit on its side and cut into neat rings. If you have small metal cookie cutters in your kitchen, you can use them. Using molds, squeeze out shapes from the pineapple pulp. These could be flowers, butterflies or stars (for an adult table) or cars, bows, etc. (table setting for children).

Canapes

As we have already noted, pineapple goes well with many foods. This is an ideal option for preparing canapés:

  • Cut several types of cheeses, Parma ham and pineapple into small cubes. Place on a skewer, alternating cheese and pineapple slices, with ham on top.
  • Pineapple is ideal for making seafood canapés. Place finely chopped pineapple and boiled shrimp in a thin sheet of ham. Wrap it in a roll and thread it onto a skewer. You can decorate the top with an olive.
  • Alternate pineapple cubes and olives. You can add a small cucumber cube in the middle.
  • How to cut a pineapple beautifully so that it looks unusual on a skewer in splendid isolation? The option is very simple. Cut the fruit into rings. Cut a small piece from the ring and put it on a skewer. It turns out to be a kind of sail. You can put a piece of peach or apple at the bottom to make a full-fledged boat.

Useful properties of pineapple

According to nutritionists and nutrition experts, pineapple is one of those few fruits that should be present not only on the holiday table, but also on ordinary days. Pineapple contains numerous beneficial amino acids, vitamins B, A, K, and minerals (zinc, iron, manganese, copper, iodine, potassium, calcium, etc.).

Despite the fact that pineapple stimulates digestion, it is a low-calorie product and consists of eighty-six percent water. It can be safely used by people who monitor their diet and count calories.

In addition, pineapple juice helps lower blood pressure, prevents the formation of blood clots, and helps in the treatment of diseases of the respiratory system. And the amazing aroma helps fight stress and improves your mood.

Pineapple is one of the most delicious fruits in the line of fruits. Among its advantages is also: an unusual exotic appearance. But one of its main disadvantages is its thick peel. This makes the fruit difficult to peel. But there are several options for cutting a pineapple: without much effort, with maximum pleasure! Let's talk about them.

Pineapple in uniform

To begin with, housewives need to prepare the necessary accessories for cutting pineapple: a sharp knife, a cutting board, a flat plate. Now - forward!

If the fruit is intended for a festive table, the ideal option is to serve it in its “uniform”. It's beautiful, and...economical. The thick peel of the pineapple protects the pulp from spoilage.

This process is similar to cutting a melon. You need to cut the pineapple in half, saving the leaves for beauty. Then use a knife to make proportional slices inside each part. In this case, do not touch the peel.

The next stage is to separate the pulp from the peel using a knife. Now we remove the unnecessary core from the fruit. We take out the pulp and divide it into pieces. We give them the shapes we like: triangular, square. It is desirable that they be the same size. Pineapple boats with delicious juicy pulp are ready. You can divide the fruit not into two, but into four parts. And the addition of other fruits will add sophistication to the pineapple dish. For example, if you mix an orange or pomelo with pineapple pulp. Here, be guided by your queen - fantasy! This option for serving pineapple requires skewers.

Rings

A convenient and practical way is to cut the pineapple into rings. To make it a reality, you need to separate the fruit from the “palm” top. Then get rid of the base. Before you begin, you should rinse the pineapple well. Then, without getting rid of the peel, carefully divide the fruit into rings. The approximate width of each is about 2 cm. The resulting rings can be folded into the shape of a pineapple. And put leaves on top, like a real fruit. Or you can simply cut the rings into two parts: vertically and horizontally.

Some housewives peel the resulting rings. From experience: eating small pieces of pineapple with the peel is much more convenient. And they look more interesting on a plate!

Plates

The most popular method to make a beautiful pineapple is to cut it from the top down into slices. Care is important here, otherwise you can cut yourself with a knife. By the way, when working with this fruit, it must be well sharpened.

So, you should cut off the top of the pineapple and the base. So that the fruit can stand on the plate. Holding the fruit with one hand, you need to start peeling it. This process must be performed with confident movements. Remember to remove the peel as thinly as possible. After all, it is under the skin that is the sweetest part of the pineapple.

Cutting off the excess

The next step is to get rid of the peepholes. They have their own arrangement: from top to bottom in a spiral. Therefore, they can be removed several at a time. This is easy to do: follow the line with the knife
location of the eyes, trim the fruit on both sides. You will get something like a long triangle of pineapple pulp, which is cut both on the left and on the right. This strip just needs to be removed. And do this until the pineapple is completely clean.

You can also use a sharp knife to clean the eyes individually. The only downside is that the loss of pulp will be greater.

To finish working with the pineapple, cut out the core. But you need to take into account that it is the hard middle that is a storehouse of vitamins. Therefore, it is better to save it.

Now you can cut the fruit as your heart desires. Many housewives prefer to divide the pineapple into slices. There should be approximately four of them, each 1.5 or 2 centimeters thick. They can then be given the desired shape.

Fruit as decoration

If you want to surprise your guests at the table, then you need to
create a masterpiece out of pineapple. First you need to cut off the top of it. Then, we start peeling the peel. The twist is that it needs to be given a spiral shape. It is more convenient to do this if you keep the pineapple on a barrel. The resulting strip of peel should be arranged on a plate in the form of a whole pineapple. To make it look like a real one, don’t forget to add a top. The pulp can be cut in the traditional way - into rings. In this option, it is better to remove the middle. Place the rings around the edges of the dish.

Pineapple - from the peel

There is an unusual method to peel the fruit. To do this, you need to cut off the crown and the lower part. Then, using a long knife, separate the skin from the pulp from the inside. This is best done if you follow the movements: up - down. The knife should go over the entire area of the fruit.
The next step is to cut out the core. Make pieces. Now the most pleasant moment - you need to remove the pieces from the peel. To do this, just shake the pineapple over a plate. A delicious fruit treat is ready!

Slicing for salad

If you need to prepare pineapple for salad, there is a quick way to cut it. Trim the top and bottom of the fruit. Then place it vertically on a flat surface. And we peel like potatoes, moving from top to bottom. The end result should be a “flower” of peel around the pineapple pulp. With one movement of the knife, cut off the peel. And let's start working with the pulp. It should be cut like a watermelon. Then, we clean each slice from the core. And we cut the fruit as the salad recipe requires.

We looked at several popular types of pineapple cuts. Surely, every lover of this fruit will find something suitable among them. But to truly enjoy every piece of pineapple, you need to choose the right fruit. A selection of the most common tips that will help you bet on the juiciest and most delicious pineapple:
