Description Kvant Wafer cast iron EPDM. Butterfly valves PALUR-ZD - flanged, wafer, butt weld Wafer seal for butterfly valves

Butterfly valve p is one of the common types of industrial pipeline fittings. This is what will be discussed in this article.

This article is one of printed video training course heads "Pipeline fittings: theory and practice of application in industry"

Some products from the catalog:

Rotary disc shutter. Theory of the issue.

Butterfly valve- pipeline fittings consisting of a valve (in the form of a disk) and a rod through which the control action is exerted on the disk. The axis of the disk can be located at an angle or perpendicular to the flow of the medium in the pipeline.

The movement of the disk when opening and closing resembles the movement of the wings of a butterfly, hence the butterfly valve.

  1. Butterfly valves allow you to throttle and block the flow of the medium, thus the butterfly valve can perform two functions. Despite this, the main function of a butterfly valve is to shut off the flow.
  2. The throttling function can be implemented with restrictions, which will be discussed below.
  3. The butterfly valve is not intended for full environmental regulation.

Design features of the butterfly valve

Butterfly valves There are collapsible or non-collapsible.

  1. The dismountable design allows the disc seal, rod and disk to be replaced by the company's repair services.
  2. The non-separable design ensures increased tightness due to the absence of unnecessary connections. Only the disk seal and the disk itself are in contact with the working medium - the medium does not come into contact with the housing.

Butterfly valves can include in their mechanism monolithic or removable seals, various cuffs depending on the characteristics of the medium in the pipeline.

Butterfly valve seals and their characteristics

The seat seal is an important part of the butterfly valve, on which its tightness depends. The methods for sealing a butterfly valve vary depending on the purpose of the valve -

  • with elastic seal on the disc,
  • with seal in the housing,
  • with a lined jacket in the body,
  • with metal seal, etc.

TO main Seals for butterfly valves include cuffs made of NBR, EPDM and Viton.

Practice shows good the results of using NBR cuffs for compressed air, and due to the high resistance to oil mixtures such as water with oil, water with gasoline, sea water with diesel fuel and other media at ambient temperatures from -20°C to +80°C.

EPDM cuffs are ideal for neutral liquids, heated process water, compounds with glycols at ambient temperatures from -40°C to +130°C, as well as a number of other media.

At the same time, Viton cuffs have good sustainability

  • to petroleum products,
  • some aggressive liquids
  • and gases at a working environment temperature from -20°С to +160°С.

NBR- medium temperature from -20°С to +80°С Suitable for air, petroleum-based liquids and other media (on request).

EPDM- ambient temperature from -40°C to +130°C. Suitable for water, hot water, process water, glycols, brines, etc. media (on request).

Viton- ambient temperature from -20°C to +160°C. Resistant to petroleum products, mineral oils and greases and other media (on request).

We brought examples just a few of the possible media recommended for use with a specific cuff type.

Regional gas company "Palyur"supplies butterfly valves under its own brandPALUR-ZD.

A butterfly valve is an element of pipeline fittings used to shut off the flow of a medium. The flow is blocked using a disk that rotates around its axis. Butterfly valves are used in technological pipelines with large diameters and relatively low pressure, in those units where there are no increased requirements for the tightness of valve elements.

There are many types of butterfly valves. They all differ in the way they are attached; ( flanged, wafer, butt weld), body and disk materials; ( cast iron, steel, stainless steel), seal materials; management methods; ( handle, gearbox, electric, drive, pneumatic drive).

In the company catalog " Palure» butterfly valves of various types and designs are available:

Symmetrical disc valves

Gates PALUR-SD-SM rotary disc symmetrical.

  • Connection method- interflange.
  • Nominal diameter- from Du40 to Du1200.

The design of a symmetrical valve involves the use of sealing collars, while valves with offset eccentricity use seats. Sealing collars are made from various materials; the requirements for sealing are determined by the composition of the environment (aggressive or non-aggressive media), as well as the temperature conditions of the object.

The advantages of symmetrical valves include lower cost, and the disadvantages are a decrease in the tightness class compared to eccentric ones.

Double eccentric disc valves

PALUR-ZD-2EX double-eccentric rotary disk valves.

  • Connection methods
  • Nominal diameter- from DN100 to DN2400.

What are the advantages of double eccentric valves? In valves with offset eccentricity, the center of rotation of the disk is shifted back relative to the center line and away from the axis of symmetry. This significantly increases the tightness.

Also, such a design allows the use of a diverse range of materials for it, by reducing the area of mutual contact between the disc and the seat at the moment of closing. This reduction prevents seal wear.

All this allows the use of such valves in more difficult conditions than similar ones with a symmetrical disk. Double eccentric valves can be used in high temperatures, high cycle rates, highly aggressive operating environments, etc.

Three-eccentric disc valves

PALUR-ZD-3EX three-eccentric rotary disk valves.

  • Connection methods- wafer, flanged, welded.
  • Nominal diameter- from Du50 to Du2400.

Valves with triple eccentricity are used in those technological units where it is necessary to completely eliminate friction. The three-eccentric valve ensures complete absence of friction of the sealing surfaces between the body and the disk during rotation. This, in turn, allows you to completely eliminate abrasion and get rid of leaks.

The effect of displacement (eccentricity) can be clearly represented as follows: when the disk is moved to the “open” position, the disk moves away from the housing seal much faster, thereby reducing deformation and reducing friction between the disk and the housing seal.

Eccentricity allows the housing and disc seals to instantly release when opened, and when closed, the sealing surfaces form a much stronger contact. All this leads to reduced wear and abrasion of surfaces, which significantly extends the service life of products.

Wafer connection

Wafer connection is a fairly common type of connection for pipeline fittings. Wafer valves do not have their own flanges or threads; they are installed between two flanges and tightened with studs.

The advantage of wafer connections

  • Wide use. The wafer connection is suitable for most process components and operating environments.
  • Reducing the construction length of the product, as well as reducing its weight, as a result - a small load on the pipeline, and a lower price.
  • Facilitation of installation in limited conditions, the ability to rotate the valve to the desired position around the axis of the pipeline.
  • The ability to easily dismantle the required system unit for repair and cleaning.

Difficulties when installing a wafer valve lie in correct centering, i.e. the location of the valve and flanges relative to each other, as well as the uniform tightening of the tie rods. If the studs are unevenly tightened in the wafer connection, leaks may occur, as well as deformation of the valve body.

Flange connection

  • Flange connection of fittings with a pipeline is also widespread. The advantages of a flange connection include:
  • Simplicity of design. Installation of fittings with a flange connection can easily be carried out by a person who does not have special knowledge, skills and abilities, although it is better to entrust such matters to professionals.
  • The ability to easily, quickly, and most importantly - repeatedly, dismantle this or that element of the valve with a flange connection.
  • Possibility of installation in flammable and explosive areas, due to the absence of the need for welding.

Disadvantages of flange connections

The disadvantages of connections using flanges include an increase in the weight and dimensions of the product, which makes installation in hard-to-reach places difficult, as well as the possibility of losing the tightness of the connection due to frequent and significant changes in pressure and temperature.

Welding connection

Weld connection (welded) is the most reliable method of installing shut-off valves. The advantages of a welded connection include:

  • Complete tightness, subject to high-quality welding work.
  • There is no need to resort to additional joint seals, and as a result, the impossibility of destroying these seals in an aggressive environment.
  • Minimal maintenance. Welded connections do not require maintenance and also reduce the weight of the product and the load on the pipeline
  • The disadvantages of such a connection include the need to use special equipment, both for installing the fittings and for replacing them.
  • The possibility of using fittings at ultra-high steam pressures, as well as in such technical lines in which it is undesirable for the working medium to enter the surrounding atmosphere, due to their toxicity or explosion hazard.

Granval butterfly valves of the Sigeval type are today a common component of pipelines throughout Russia. Their short face-to-face length, low installation and maintenance costs, and high airtightness make them an ideal solution for most systems. It is most advisable to use butterfly valves for water supply systems, especially with large pipeline diameters. It is also used in heat supply, ventilation and air conditioning systems. Depending on the materials used, butterfly valves can be used for drinking, technical, sea water, food and bulk products, gases, including natural gases, oils, petroleum products, aggressive and abrasive media in a wide range of temperature/pressure conditions. Diameter range DN 200-1200 mm. Pressure: PN 10/16 bar. The butterfly valve is controlled manually, as well as using a gearbox, electric or pneumatic drive

When disassembling and assembling the valve, be sure to follow safety rules and protect the sealing collar and disk from damage.

The shutter is disassembled in the following order:

  1. Rotate the disc to the open position;
  2. If there are drive units (handles, manual gearboxes, electric, pneumatic, hydraulic drives), it is necessary to remove them in the prescribed manner;
  3. Removing the pin securing the disk to the shaft;
  4. Scrolling the shaft around its axis and removing it from the disk. If necessary, remove
  5. shaft and from the valve body together with the bearing sleeve and sealing rings;
  6. Removing the disc from the sealing collar;
  7. Removing the sealing collar.

To assemble Kvant butterfly valves, it is necessary to perform all the same operations described above, but in reverse order.

Particular attention should be paid to the following:

  • Before assembly, complete cleaning of all parts; to facilitate assembly, treat the shaft, disk and sealing collar with silicone spray;
  • When the sealing collar is installed correctly, the holes in the seal and in the butterfly valve body are aligned;
  • To facilitate assembly, the valve disc and shaft should be set to the "open" position;
  • Installation of bearing bushings and ring seals;
  • To check the correct assembly and operation of the valve, it is necessary to close and open the rotary valve using a key.
