Installation of a gas water heater in an apartment building. Rules for installing a gas water heater. Device operation guarantees

The most important thing to do before installing this complex device is to collect all the necessary documents for various organizations and comply with all installation requirements that will ensure the correct and safe operation of the equipment.

Organizations and documentation

First of all, you need to contact the Housing Office and obtain plans for smoke removal, water and gas supply. If the house already had a water heater, then you should also obtain a plan that indicates the technical characteristics of the device and its installation location.

As soon as all these plans are in hand, you need to contact the city gas service with an application, which will contain a request for permission to replace old equipment or install new one. This document must also be accompanied by a statement that the gas and water supply system will be repaired or replaced.

When the repair and replacement are completed, the owner receives an approved act and, accordingly, an installed column.

This process becomes much more complicated when installing the device in a new location. After all, such work leads to the need to change gas and water pipes, as well as the smoke exhaust system.

You need to collect a more detailed list of documents. It includes:

    Technical data sheet of the speaker or at least the name of its model

    Statement of the condition of smoke ducts

    Application for refurbishment of living space

    Documents that confirm ownership of the apartment

    Column installation project

    Application for installation work

After all documents are ready and approved, gas service workers will have to carry out all the necessary work on installation, configuration and connection of equipment.

Upon completion of all work and sealing of the meter, it will be necessary to obtain certificates from technical supervision and the fire service, as well as a separate certificate stating that the device has been accepted for operation.

You will definitely need to contact the BTI to submit a new project.

Basic requirements for installing and connecting a geyser

According to modern standards, this device can be installed only in two rooms in the apartment: the kitchen or non-residential premises. Before changes to legislation were made, this list also included the bathroom.

This is what a diagram of the correct location of the speaker in the kitchen looks like:

In addition to the purpose of the room, when choosing it, you also need to focus on its volume (from 8 m3 or more), ceiling height (at least 2 meters) and wall material (fireproof).

If the walls are made of fire-resistant materials, then the place where the equipment will stand should be protected with basalt insulating cardboard with a thickness of 3 to 5 mm and a galvanized sheet with a thickness of 1 mm.

Hanging the device occurs according to certain rules: its side panel should be located at a distance of less than 15 cm from the wall, and the front panel should be at least 60 cm away from any objects opposite.

To connect this device, you need to correctly install the chimney pipe. It must be made exclusively of stainless or galvanized steel with a thickness of at least 1 mm. Aluminum is not allowed.

A gas tap must be mounted next to the column, the handle of which should be painted yellow - traditional for gas appliances.

Important! If the shut-off valve is not installed, the column cannot be installed.

Now about the supply of pipes for hot and cold water. For cold water, a separate pipe is installed from the riser. The same pipes lead to the bathroom, faucets and waste tank. For heated water, it is better to install a copper or stainless steel tube 15 mm in diameter.

Before starting installation work, you should sketch out an installation diagram.

Approximate view:

However, it should be taken into account that this diagram does not indicate a ventilation outlet for removing combustion products and an external power supply, without which the device will not start.

Before installing the column, you need to check whether combustion products will be removed normally. To do this, check the draft in the chimney. The test is carried out using a candle or a lit match.

If you bring the burning flame to the ventilation hole at a distance of about 2 cm, it should deviate slightly (by 45 degrees) - this is normal. If the deviation is insignificant (5-10 degrees), then the thrust is insufficient. And if the flame begins to deviate in the opposite direction, then it is necessary to clean the smoke shaft and only then install the water heater.

There is also a standard draft indicator: it should be 1.96-29.40 Pa (varies depending on the type of room).

What tools will you need?

After drawing up a diagram and checking the operation of the ventilation duct, you need to acquire all the necessary materials and tools (in addition to the gas water heater). These include:

    Pipe for chimney installation (wall thickness - at least 1 mm)

    PVC water drainage pipe

    Metal-plastic gas pipe

    Set of fittings, keys and taps

    Gas shut-off valve

    Filters for water purification that will protect the column from scale

    Drill and pipe cutter

Correct choice of location and chimney device

If the installation will be carried out in the kitchen, then the column must be placed at least 10 cm from the electric or gas stove. At the same time, its window, through which you can see how the burner works, should be exactly at eye level.

After this, you need to prepare a ventilation hole into which the smoke exhaust of the column will be supplied. A galvanized chimney pipe with a length of at least 1.5 m is inserted into it and connected to the device. The column is attached to the wall with dowels.

When the device is securely fastened and screwed with self-tapping screws, you can connect a gas hose to it and screw it onto a special fitting (you can distinguish it from water fittings by diameter or color).

In the picture, 2 fittings for water are yellow, and for gas - white:

To connect the gas hose directly to the gas pipeline, it is necessary to cut a tee into the gas pipe. This is done using a welding machine or, if there is a threaded connection, by screwing in a tee.

Connecting the geyser to the water supply

Now you should connect the gas water heater to the water supply. To do this, it is necessary to draw a separate line from the “cold” water supply pipe, which will end right at the special fitting of the column. This will be the "entrance". The “output” is removed from the column and connected to the “hot” pipeline.

To connect to pipes, the same tapping method is used as in the case of a gas pipeline.

It is necessary to have salt and magnetic filters that will protect the device from scale and related damage.

Important! When installing, we must not forget about such an important element as the Mayevsky tap. It “airs” communication and thereby extends its service life.

When all the work is finished, you can put the upper pipe of the column on the pipe connected to the exhaust duct and fix the draft sensor.

Functionality check

The installation is complete, all that remains is to check the functionality of the unit and begin operating it with peace of mind.

To check, you need to open the tap and run gas into the column. You also need to check the connection “dispenser-gas hose” for leaks. To do this, prepare a soap solution, which will definitely indicate the presence of a leak: bubbles will appear at the places of poor joining.

Now you can check the water supply. To do this, you need to open the “hot” tap and slightly open the Mayevsky tap. Air will come out of the pipes, the filter will fill and the column will start. If hot water comes out of the tap in the bathroom and kitchen, it means that all efforts were not in vain and the water heater was installed successfully.

Installing geysers is a labor-intensive and very responsible process. After all, an incorrectly installed and connected device can cause a gas leak, which will entail irreversible consequences in the form of damage to property, housing and, most importantly, loss of life. Therefore, inexperienced users just need to collect all the necessary documents and not try to install this unit themselves - it is better to entrust the work to professional craftsmen.

During the operation of a gas water heater, there are often situations when it becomes necessary to move it to a new location or replace it with a more advanced model. All these operations can be carried out in agreement with the services that regulate the procedure for connecting equipment to gas communications.

Norms and requirements

Activities for moving or installing a gas unit are divided into two categories:

  • installation work carried out in a room (building) where gas-powered equipment has not been used before;
  • the procedure for connecting a gas water heater, accompanied by replacing the old unit with a new model.

In the first case, before starting work, you will need to prepare design documentation, which includes the requirements for the arrangement of branches from the gas and water mains. Once the project is ready and agreed upon with all interested organizations, it will be possible to submit an application to the local department of housing and communal services to connect the already purchased device.

The basic requirements for the installation of such equipment are regulated by the following regulations:

  • Code of Practice No. 42-101 of 2003, establishing the procedure for preparing a project for connecting gas distribution systems.
  • Code of Practice No. 42-01 of 2002, regarding the clarification of the concept of “gas distribution system”.

The main provisions of these documents relate to the technical characteristics of the equipped premises, as well as the placement features of the dispenser itself. When replacing water heaters installed in bathrooms in accordance with current technical standards, it is not necessary to move them to another location.

This rule does not apply to the case when the user himself insists on moving the column at his own expense.

Where can I install

According to the rules for installing geysers in apartments, they can be installed in kitchens with fairly high ceilings and if there is a chimney opening with a diameter of at least 120 millimeters. It is also assumed that these rooms have permanent ventilation to ensure safe operating conditions for gas equipment.

The characteristics of modern models of gas water heaters allow them to be used at high humidity, that is, in the bathroom, without a traditional chimney.

The necessary changes in the project involve the laying of pipe outlets with access to the street, ensuring the flow of air into the closed chamber and the removal of combustion products from it.

Note! It is clear that such a project is only suitable for a country farm or a private house.

The following strict requirements are imposed on the premises in which gas equipment is intended to be used:

  • the height of the room must exceed 2 meters;
  • the volume of the room can be at least 8 cubic meters;
  • it must have natural ventilation (at least one window), as well as a channel for installing a chimney.

The air vents in the rooms are not suitable for these purposes and are therefore immediately excluded from consideration.

Let's add to this that the media pressure in the water line cannot be lower than 0.1 atmosphere, and the wall intended for hanging the unit must be made of non-combustible materials. In addition, it is not allowed to install it close to a gas stove (technical standards allow the unit to be mounted at a distance of at least 10 centimeters from it).

Who has the right to install

Special gas equipment cannot be installed and connected independently, since in this case the rules determined by the current technical standards are violated. According to these documents, installation and connection of a gas water heating device is carried out only in agreement with the technical services responsible for the trouble-free operation of existing highways.

All private owners who arbitrarily violate this condition may be subject to an administrative penalty with payment of a mandatory fine in the amount specified by current legislation.

Installation of a geyser requires its mandatory connection to existing mains, such as gas supply lines and water supply. Only companies with a special permit (license) have the right to conduct them. When you first contact a representative of these services, it is advisable to familiarize yourself with the following information:

  • timing and cost of installation work;
  • waiting time for the technician to arrive;
  • details of the organization (including telephone number for operational communication).

Only after familiarizing yourself with all this data will it be possible to submit an application for the installation of a geyser.

Preparatory operations

If you have permission to connect the device yourself, the installation procedure looks like this.

You should start by closing the channel of energy supply into the gas water heater using the appropriate valve. After this, it will be possible to disconnect the supply hose (pipe) from the fitting at the inlet to the unit.

Important! If there is the slightest doubt about the reliability of a used hose, it is necessary to replace it with a new one.

At the next stage, it will be possible to proceed to disconnecting the water supply channel from the unit (if there is a shut-off valve at the inlet pipe). If it is absent, you should shut off the channel entering the apartment, having first prepared two spare valves (for the input and output of the distribution circuit).

After this, it is necessary to dismantle the connecting pipe located at the outlet of the column, and then carefully separate it from the attachment to the chimney opening.

The completely disconnected column remains to be removed from the brackets securing the product to the wall. After this, you can proceed to the installation of a new unit, hung in the old place in accordance with the rules for installing geysers.

Features of self-installation

In the case of a simple replacement of the unit, its installation can be carried out without the involvement of specialists, since the communication connections are already available and all that remains is to change the equipment.

When carrying out installation operations, the following points must be taken into account:

  1. First, you should mark the mounting points for the speaker on the wall, for which you first need to remove its mounting dimensions;
  2. the hanging location should be chosen in such a way that the distance to the nearest outlet is at least 0.5 meters (for a room height of up to 2.75 meters);
  3. with a higher room height, this distance may be slightly less (up to 0.25 meters).

For safety reasons, the height of the gas water heater on the wall should not allow small children to reach the control panel. It is very important to accurately measure the distance between the mounting holes, which allows you to hang the speaker on hooks or special brackets without any difficulty. Taking into account all the factors listed above, installing a speaker comes down to simply hanging it at the desired height.

Connection

After the column is installed and secured at the place of permanent operation, it is necessary to connect the water supply and drainage channels to it. To do this, pre-prepared and measured rubber connecting hoses should be used (sometimes PVC pipes are used instead of rubber).

The use of hoses is preferable because, due to their flexibility, they can be connected to any point in the column. In addition, for their reliable articulation in the joining area, no special sealant (tow or FUM tape) is required.

Water

To correctly connect the cold water hose, pay attention to the color markings of the valve devices (the inlet tap is indicated in blue). And on the shut-off device intended for supplying hot water, the marking is red.

After connecting them, all connections should be checked for leaks. To do this, you need to open both taps and carefully inspect the connecting points for leaks. If there are minor leaks, you need to tighten the fixing nuts on the hose, being careful not to apply too much force (otherwise you can tear off the gaskets).

If there is a leak, pipe joints will need to be unscrewed and the threaded parts will need to be wrapped in tow with paint or FUM tape.

Gas

After eliminating all detected leaks, you should select one of the options for supplying gas to the column, namely:

  • you can call a gas equipment specialist (gas technician) who has the legal right to carry out such work;
  • You can connect to the gas main yourself.

What is more suitable for a particular situation depends on the qualifications of the performer, and the final decision is made at his discretion. If you choose the second of these options, you should take a gas hose of the required length and connect one of its ends to the gas supply with a shut-off valve. The return end of this hose is connected to the inlet fitting located on the column.

When tightening this connection, you should also not press it too hard, so as not to damage the paranit gasket in the union nut. After this, you need to take a previously prepared soap solution and coat both gas joints with it.

If, when opening the inlet valve, no bubbles form in the joining areas, the work can be considered completed. Otherwise, you need to tighten the nuts a little, and then check their tightness again using soap foam.

Please note: if necessary, you can turn off the gas supply and change the paronite gaskets.

At the final stage of installation work, all that remains is to install the protective corrugated covering. One end of it is put on the outlet of the column, and the other is connected to the chimney outlet.

Start-up and commissioning

Commissioning work involves putting the column into operation, setting it up and checking its functionality (testing) for a certain time. To do this, you need to insert the battery into the piezo ignition compartment specially designed for this purpose, then open the hot water supply tap and set its temperature according to the instructions.

In conclusion, we note that when purchasing a new speaker, you can use the connection service available in some stores. Therefore, even before choosing the right model, ask how much it costs to connect it to an invited specialist. If the cost of this service is not very high, you can safely invite him to your home, which will ultimately simplify the registration of the speaker itself.

When starting it yourself, it is still better to entrust such an important operation as connecting a gas hose to a specialist who can correctly configure the new equipment.

Various devices are used to heat water in the apartment. This could be a boiler room, boiler or gas water heater. Installing the latter is a truly dangerous and responsible task. The slightest inaccuracy can lead to a gas leak, or even an explosion in the apartment. That is why there are a lot of rules and regulations for the installation of this device, failure to comply with which is punishable by law. Today we will explain to you in detail all the stages of connecting a gas water heater, but if you do not have the appropriate knowledge, we advise you not to try to do this work yourself.

As you probably understand, in order to install any gas appliance, you must comply with the relevant standards and regulations. If you neglect at least one of them, you risk not only getting into trouble with the law, but also causing the death of people close to you.

Connecting a speaker with your own hands is an unsafe activity. According to state regulations, only organizations with a special license have the right to carry out such installation.

If you already have an old speaker, then you can easily replace it with a new device yourself. However, installing the device from “a” to “z” with your own hands is prohibited.

If you decide to connect a gas water heater yourself, or entrust only part of the work to special services, then you need to familiarize yourself with the basic rules of SNiP for such installation. They are applicable both in an apartment and in a private house.

SNiP standards:

  • Installation of a gas water heater is only possible in a room with a volume of at least 7 cubic meters. meters;
  • The wall on which you plan to hang the speaker should be made of non-flammable material, such as brick or concrete.
  • The room where the gas water heater will be installed must have a window and a good ventilation system;
  • In an apartment with a column, the ceilings must have a height of at least 2 meters;
  • In order to install the column, you need to find a chimney in the room;
  • For normal operation of the column, the water pressure in the system must be at least 1 atm.
  • You cannot install the column in the bathroom or toilet, and the gas unit must be located at a distance of at least 10 cm from the stove. In this case, the column cannot be hung above the stove.

These are new SNiP standards regarding the installation of a gas water heater. The old standards were somewhat different, so if your old water heater is installed in the bathroom, you can put a new unit in its place, and this will not be a violation of the law.

Preparing documents before connecting the gas water heater

The first installation of a geyser requires a lot of fuss with documentation and quite high costs. However, this fact does not scare most apartment owners.

To install a water heater in an apartment where there is no gas supply, you will have to install these lines yourself. Such work alone will cost you quite a lot, so it’s better to team up with neighbors who, like you, want to install a speaker.

The first installation of a column includes the following “Paper” steps:

  1. You need to obtain consent to supply gas from distributors and transporters and install a land allotment for the gas pipeline. You also need to calculate consumption and get a list of technical conditions.
  2. Next you need to do the design. This stage consists of concluding an agreement, collecting and examining documents, as well as obtaining permission from several authorities.
  3. After installation work is completed, an agreement is concluded between GORGAZ and OBLGAZ.

To obtain all the necessary permits, you need to collect a whole list of documents. We'll give you the most complete list, but depending on the area you live in and how often you install the speaker, the list may get smaller.

List of documentation required to obtain permission:

  • A copy of a document confirming that you are the owner of the apartment;
  • Copy of pages 2, 3 and 5 of your passport;
  • A copy of your TIN;
  • Permission to process your data;
  • A document confirming the purchase of gas, as well as a letter confirming the conclusion of a work contract;
  • Gas equipment service agreement;
  • Specifications for connection to gas and documents on the implementation of specifications;
  • Copies of gas equipment;
  • A copy of the act on the division of property between the owner of the apartment and the distributor;
  • Copies of gas meter technical passports and confirmation of their verification;
  • A copy of the gasification project and a stamp from the metrology department of Gazprom.

The prepared list of documents is submitted to the appropriate authorities. After some time has passed, you should receive a verdict from the gas services.

How to install a geyser

We have come directly to the installation stage of the gas water heater. If you have installed gas lines, received all the necessary documentation and completed all the specifications, then it will not be difficult to install it yourself.

How to install the column correctly:

  1. The front panel is removed from the column. Using the markings for the speaker mounts, mark the installation locations for the anchors. The correctness of the markings is checked using a building level. Now, according to the markings, you need to drill holes, insert dowels and anchors.
  2. Most modern speakers have a special mounting plate. It must be installed at the marked level, leveled using a building level.
  3. Install the column itself onto the plate. Clicks indicate correct installation.
  4. Lay a corrugated pipe from the outlet of the column to the common chimney. Treat the wall with a hammer drill and insert a chimney. The gap between the wall and the chimney needs to be foamed.

It's too early to install the front panel. First you need to connect to gas and water.

Connection diagram for a geyser to water and gas

If you are installing a column for the first time, you will have to run a gas pipe to it. To do this, you will need to invite craftsmen who will cut a tee into the gas pipe and install the pipe on it.

You can hang the pipe directly to the connection point. This gas connection scheme eliminates the need to use a gas hose. In this case, you must first install the column, and only then connect the gas pipe.

The other option is more practical, as it allows you to install the column at any time convenient for you. In this case, the pipe is led to the installation only half a meter, and the remaining route is installed by installing a gas valve.

Ball valves are installed on cold and hot water lines. It is also advisable to install coarse and fine filters in front of the column. Such devices will allow you to increase the service life of the heat exchanger.

It is very important to find a high-quality speaker, since your safety will depend on how good the unit you choose is. We advise you to take a closer look at models from well-known manufacturers, for example, Bosch or Vaillant.

To connect water to the column, you can run a pipe 30 cm and finish the remaining distance with a flexible hose or connect pipes made of steel, metal-plastic or propylene directly to the column. To install the pipes, you will need to install a special tee into the water supply.

Starting and setting up a gas water heater

Before starting the column, it is necessary to check all the seams connecting to the water supply and gas pipeline hoses. They must be sealed. There is a proven method by which you can check the tightness of gas connections.

How to check the tightness of gas connections:

  • Lubricate all gas pipe joints and fittings with soapy water;
  • Open the gas valve;
  • Check connections for bubbles.

If there are no bubbles, then the connections are sealed. You can check the connections to the water supply without any special accessories, just by making sure the seams are dry.

Next, you need to perform all the necessary steps to start the column according to the instructions. A very important step is setup. It can only be done with a pressure gauge. The adjusting bolt sets the gas pressure, and the wiper sets the air supply.

Connecting a gas water heater with your own hands (video)

Installing a gas water heater is a very difficult and responsible task. You can do some of the steps yourself, but some steps will have to be entrusted to special services. If you do everything correctly, then you will not need repairs to your gas device for a long time.

How much does it cost to install a geyser? Dismantling and replacing a geyser by the hands of specialists will cost an average of 3,000 to 4,500 rubles. This is in Moscow, in the regions it will be cheaper. The amount is not astronomical, but, nevertheless, it is still a pity to give it for work that you can easily do yourself. And everything would be fine, but in this matter there are a great many nuances, ignoring which can greatly hit the user’s pocket.

What are these nuances? What kind of rules and regulations generally govern these types of work? And you simply must know the basic provisions, because this is not a plumbing system with which you can experiment. Gas is gas, negligence and carelessness in dealing with it ends very badly. In this article we will look at the procedure for replacing and installing a gas water heater. Let's look at step by step how and what you can do yourself, and what is best left to a gas industry representative.

Standards and requirements governing the installation of a geyser

Note! Let’s immediately make a reservation that all types of work related to gas supply, i.e. supplying a gas pipe, installing tees, shut-off valves on the gas pipe, etc. carried out only by organizations that have the appropriate special license. Ignoring this provision will, at best, lead to a hefty fine and a severe headache.

All work on installing a geyser can be divided into two categories:

  • installation from scratch, i.e. it wasn’t there, but you decided to deliver it;
  • replacing the old column with a new one.

In the first case, a design and supply of a gas pipe to the location of the future water heater is required. All this work is the responsibility of the gas industry in your area or a company that has a license for the corresponding type of activity. It is impossible to do without this. Do not try to do anything yourself in this case. This is not smart, because... You yourself risk your life and property, and when installing a gas water heater in an apartment, you endanger other people. And it’s not easy to play such games with the state, it’s not the right weight category. Therefore, entrust this work to people authorized by law for this type of activity.

If the project is ready, everything is agreed, then by completing part of the work properly you can save a significant amount. Any work that you decide to carry out yourself must be carried out strictly in accordance with the requirements of the approved project; if this is not done, the gas industry will not accept this gas water heater for operation.

Note. All work on the installation of gas units begins only when you receive a project with all the necessary permits and approvals.

All standards for installing a geyser are regulated by the following acts:

SP 42-101-2003 "General provisions for the design and construction of gas distribution systems made of metal and polyethylene pipes"

SNiP 42-01-2002 GAS DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS

In order to bore the reader with many clever words, we present the basic standards for installing a gas water heater, which apply to the intended installation location:

  1. The room in which the column is installed must have a volume of at least 7.5 m3.
  2. The room must have ventilation (vent, window, etc.).
  3. The ceiling height in such a room must be at least 2 m.
  4. The room must have a chimney with a diameter of at least 120 mm (at the same time, “smotherers” in apartments do not qualify as such).
  5. The pressure in the water supply must be at least 0.1 atmosphere.
  6. It is prohibited to install geysers in bathrooms.
  7. The column is installed on a wall made of non-combustible materials; installation above a gas stove and at a distance closer than 10 cm to it is prohibited.

At the same time, those speakers that are installed in bathrooms, in accordance with the technical standards in force at the time of installation, are allowed to be used in the future. That is, the law does not clearly prohibit its further exploitation. This means that replacement with a new one does not prohibit. And does not require transfer at the user's expense.

If all these requirements for installing a geyser are feasible, then you can order a project. The exact installation location and other details will be displayed in the project.

Removing the old column

Since the basic requirements and standards have been reviewed in general terms, if everything complies, you can begin replacing the gas water heater. And we should start with dismantling. You can do this yourself and save from 300 to 800 rubles.

We start by shutting off gas access to the column by closing the tap at the end of the gas pipe. Using an adjustable wrench or an open-end wrench of the appropriate size, unscrew the fixing nut of the hose (rarely, but there is a method of supplying gas using a metal pipe). It is quite difficult to damage the gas pipe when unscrewing the hose, but with the “ancient” connection method, i.e. a piece of metal pipe, quite realistic. Especially if the joint has been painted over for years. In this case, do not use excessive force; to remove paint, use a modern solvent specifically for this work. When unscrewing, hold the gas pipe with a second adjustable wrench, this way there is less chance of damage.

After disconnecting from the gas pipe, it is necessary to remove the hose (pipe) from the point of entry into the column. If the hose has recently been changed and its condition is satisfactory, then it can be reused when connecting a new column. If you have any doubts about the reliability of the hose, purchase a new one. When purchasing, take a certified and tested hose; after all, this is gas and buying a cheap hose from an unknown manufacturer is not appropriate here.

The next dismantling step is to turn off the water supply system. If there are taps to turn off the column, turn them off. If this is not possible, shut off the supply to the apartment. In the case of the latter option, before installing a new column, purchase two taps for the inlet and outlet of water from the column and install them on the pipes in the place where the connection will be made. This will make it easier to maintain in the future.

After disconnecting the column from the water supply, remove the connecting pipe from the outlet of the column and remove it from the chimney. The speaker is disabled and can now be removed from the wall mount. The installation site is free, you can begin installing the new unit.

Installation and commissioning of a gas water heater

During the initial installation, it is better to entrust the connection and verification, with the registration certificate of the gas water heater, to the gas specialists. If you change the old column, you can do all the work yourself. But there are two nuances, if you doubt your ability to correctly install a gas water heater - trust the specialists, your wallet will be somewhat thinner - but the nervous system will remain unaffected and, ultimately, the benefit will be yours.

If you decide to do everything yourself, you will succeed, the main thing is to do everything slowly and progressively. But even in this case, you cannot do without a representative of the gas industry; he must register the dispenser. The best option, perhaps, is the situation when you do all the connection work yourself, with the exception of gas-related work. In this case, you will save a significant amount and there should be no problems with the gas service, because connection to the gas main will be carried out by their representative. We will consider this option.

Tools and materials

Before starting work, you must purchase and have the following materials:

  • Galvanized pipe or corrugation, no thinner than 1 mm. If it comes with a speaker, great. If not, measure the diameter of the outlet of the column boiler or look in the instructions and purchase the appropriate pipe.
  • Purchase a ring-socket for arranging the entrance to the chimney, also according to the size of the corrugation.
  • If you plan to install a gas water heater in your house and you need chimney equipment, you will need an asbestos or metal pipe with a diameter of at least 120 mm, or more. The length is at least 2 meters, more is possible - the traction will be better.

  • The gas hose is standard, the size of the hose will depend on your conditions, i.e. distance from the end of the gas pipe to the inlet into the column. Pay attention to the type of thread at the inlet to the column, the hose tip must be suitable, there must be a match in the type of thread external/internal and a diameter of ½" or ¾". The diameter of the fixing nut on the hose is ½" and if the inlet to the column is ¾" you will need an adapter (coupling).

  • It is better to prepare the water supply connection point in advance, so you only need two connecting hoses of the required length. You can make connections using metal-plastic pipes, whichever is more convenient for you. In the latter case, determine whether couplings are needed to match the dimensions of the pipe and the connection location and thread (external/internal).
  • Dowels for mounting the speaker on the wall.
  • If your home does not have a coarse filter installed, we recommend installing one. The service life of the new unit will directly depend on the quality of the water.

Tools you will need:

  • Depending on the complexity of the work and the material - a hammer drill with a set of drills and chisels, a drill with a drill for ceramic tiles.

Installation and testing of a new unit

This description assumes that the water supply and the presence of a chimney have already been implemented. At the location where the gas water heater is installed, mark the points for installing the fasteners. You must calculate the height of the column in such a way that the connecting pipe (corrugation) has a vertical length from the outlet of the column to the socket of at least 50 cm, if the room height exceeds 2.7 m - 25 cm. At the same time, the installation height of the geyser is not should give children free access to the device. Also measure the distance between the mounting holes on the speaker body. After you calculate the installation locations for the dowels using a hammer drill or drill, depending on your conditions, make holes and install hooks. The speaker can be hung on the wall.

Now, using connecting hoses or PVC pipes, we connect the water supply to the inlet and outlet of the column. Using a hose is convenient because it does not require tow or FUM tape at the joints. We connect the cold water tap in series with the gas water heater inlet, indicated in blue. In the same way, we connect the hot water outlet to the tap (indicated in red). We open the cold and hot water tap and see if everything is sealed. If a leak is detected, carefully tighten the hose fixing nuts. Without unnecessary efforts, as you can crush the rubber gasket - seal. The connection using pipes will need to be unscrewed in places of leakage and the tow with a sealant or FUM tape must be twisted.

After we achieve the tightness of the water supply, you can go in two ways: either call a gas technician, or install the gas water heater yourself in full. You decide.

If the second option, then take a gas hose and screw it to the gas tap. After this, connect the other end of the hose to the inlet in the column. We clamp without unnecessary effort, so as not to crush the paranitic gaskets. We take a soap solution, generously smear the joints around the entire perimeter, open the gas supply tap and carefully observe to see if there are any bubbles. If there is, press the nut a little and apply it again. So until we achieve complete tightness.

So, we have a sealed connection between water supply and gas. The next step is to install the corrugation. Here everything is much simpler, on the one hand we put the speakers on the outlet, on the other we insert them into the chimney socket.

We insert the batteries into the column, open the hot water tap and adjust the water temperature according to the operating instructions for the column. We use it.

And one last thing. Usually, large stores also have a connection service. When purchasing, ask how much it will cost to connect them to a specialist. It will be cheaper or even free, and there will be no issues with the warranty on the column at all. And registration in the gas industry will take place without unnecessary friction.

If this is not available, I still recommend that you entrust the connection of the gas hose to a gas installer (the cost of installing a gas water heater for such a connection is several times less than for complete dismantling and installation), and he will be pleased (he will earn money) and there will be no complaints against you. Plus a guarantee of safety and integrity. But it is, of course, up to you to decide.

Installing a geyser with your own hands is theoretically possible. However, it should be taken into account that any work related to gas supply, be it the supply of a pipeline or the installation of fittings, can be carried out by experienced specialists. If you try to perform such actions yourself, the home master faces a fine. But how, in this case, can you install a gas water heater yourself?

There are two types of installation of such equipment:

  1. The column is installed from scratch.
  2. A new column is installed instead of the old one.

When installing a heating unit from scratch, it is necessary to develop a special project that will show the supply of the gas pipe to where the column will be mounted. Such planning of work should be carried out by specialized structures, be it the gas industry or companies that have a license to conduct such activities.

When the project is created and confirmed, and the appropriate permission for installation is issued, then you can install the equipment yourself, without fear of being fined. And it is at this stage that a significant amount of money can be saved.

Important! If the old water heater is being replaced, then no permits or projects are needed to carry out the work. In this case, the work must be carried out in accordance with the existing project.

The official act that regulates the installation of water heating systems is. All requirements for the gas water heater are also indicated here. But given the fact that today, when installing gas supply systems, materials not made of metal are most often used, it is necessary to pay attention to points. This is where all the nuances of working with products made of foam propylene and metal are described.

What to consider when installing a column

Let's consider the basic installation rules that must be observed when carrying out work:

  • The room must have a minimum area of 7.5 m2.
  • The minimum pressure readings should be 0.1 atm.
  • Sufficient ventilation must be ensured.
  • The equipment should be installed on a wall that has been protected with non-combustible materials.
  • Placement directly above a gas stove is prohibited. A minimum distance of 10 cm must be maintained between such devices.
  • A mandatory requirement for installing the device is the presence of a chimney. The diameter of the pipe should be from 120 mm.
  • The ceilings in the room must be at least 2 meters high.
  • There must be a gas meter in an apartment with a water heater.

Important! Installation of a gas water heater directly in a bathroom is not prohibited by basic regulatory documents. As a rule, in our time, the installation of these units in apartments is most often carried out in kitchen areas. However, if the speaker was previously installed in the bathroom, then there is no need to reinstall it in the kitchen.

Tools required for installation

To install a gas water heater in an apartment, you need the following tools:

  • Adjustable wrenches (two wrenches required).
  • Two open-end wrenches (27 by 30 and 32 by 36).
  • Sealant. Unipack is perfect.
  • Tow or FUM tape.

To carry out installation work, you need to prepare the following materials:

  • Galvanized pipe, 1 meter long. Often such materials are supplied complete with heating equipment.

Advice! If the geyser was not equipped with such a pipe, then you should read the instruction manual, where all the necessary parameters will be indicated by the manufacturer of such equipment.

  • Gas hose (its dimensions are specified in the documentation that comes with the kit).
  • A filter designed for rough water purification. Keep in mind that the service life of such equipment directly depends on the quality of the water.
  • A rosette ring required to lead out the entrance to the chimney.
  • Dowels that will secure the equipment to the wall.

Installation work step by step

When the chimney and water supply are prepared for the installation of equipment, you can proceed directly to its installation. Replacing a gas water heater is carried out in several stages:

  • Mark the equipment attachment points. Here you should take into account the minimum length of the chimney, which is 50 cm for rooms with a ceiling height of 2 meters and 25 cm - where the ceiling height is 2.7 meters or higher.

  • Holes are made in the wall according to the markings.
  • Hooks are installed to hold the column.
  • Now the device can be hung on the wall.
  • We take PVC pipes and connecting rods, through which the pipeline is connected to the inlet and outlet of the column.

Advice! When working with hoses, the use of tow or FUM tape is unacceptable.

  • Having installed the pipeline, we open the water supply taps (both cold and hot), thus checking the system. Having detected a leak, we simply tighten the rod locking nuts. However, you shouldn’t tighten it too much either - you can damage the seal.

Important! If you identify a leak in connections that were made using tow or FUM tape, be sure to redo them.

  • At the last stage of installation, gas is supplied to the device. To do this, take a flexible hose: one end is screwed to the gas supply valve, and the other to the gas inlet into the column. Next, you need to crimp the connections and treat them with a soap solution to check for leaks.
  • We supply gas to the system. If there are no bubbles in the areas with the applied solution, then you can safely put the system into operation.

Advice! When purchasing a gas water heater, check with your consultant to see if the company provides equipment installation services. Large stores have a personal staff of specialists, and therefore can change the gas water heater in the apartment completely free of charge.

Conclusion

A gas water heater is the most obvious means of autonomous heating of an apartment. You can install it yourself, but this issue should be approached with all seriousness, having first obtained all the necessary permits for the work.
