In this material we have collected 80 photo ideas of cute and interesting crafts from vegetables and fruits for the little ones and older children.

  1. To connect the parts, use toothpicks, wooden skewers and pins.
  2. In the absence of special tools for carving (artistic cutting of fruits), for cutting out small parts it is worth choosing a knife with the narrowest blade (for example, a penknife will do). Small holes in the peel are most accurately obtained using a drill or screwdriver.
  3. To prevent the fruits from darkening, a solution of vinegar, lemon juice or gelatin diluted in water should be sprayed onto the cuts. If you want to cut out parts from carrots, soak them in salt water for a couple of hours, then they will become more flexible and stronger.
  4. If you make crafts using the carving technique (artistic cutting of fruits) or simply use cut fruits/vegetables, then you should start making crafts no earlier than the day before the start of the exhibition. If you want to make a craft in advance or extend its life as long as possible, use only whole, dense and slightly unripe fruits.
  5. Crafts made from vegetables and fruits (except for watery vegetables/fruits) can be stored for several days in cold water. Watery fruits will remain beautiful longer if they are periodically sprayed with water.

To decorate crafts, it is good to use plasticine, paper, marker, gouache, acrylic paints and all kinds of available materials.

  1. Children under 7 years old can and enjoy making simple figures of animals, funny people and cartoon characters.

For older children, it is more interesting and useful to make crafts that are more detailed and subordinated to some plot or idea. For example, a pirate must steer a ship made of zucchini, and Cinderella must ride in a carriage made of pumpkins.

  1. Do you want to make a spectacular structure that will delight your child and his friends? Make a large craft, for example, based on a pumpkin, watermelon, tall squash or melon.
  2. Here is a list of traditional themes and ideas for children's crafts made from fruits and vegetables:
  • Towers, houses and castles;
  • Animals and insects;
  • Fairy tale and cartoon characters from the Firebird to Shrek;
  • Still lifes of flowers, plants, mushrooms in baskets and vases;
  • Funny people (for example, it could be a composition on the theme “My Family” or “me and my friends”, etc.).

  • Types of transport (airplanes, ships, etc.);

  1. Unstable crafts are best mounted on a stand, such as cardboard, foam, or a shoebox lid.

Vegetable craft ideas

From zucchini and eggplant

Zucchini is good for its variety of sizes, strong skin that holds its shape well, and pulp that does not change color over time, unlike potatoes. Therefore, they are great for carving and making parts of different shapes, such as round wheels.

Zucchini makes excellent boats, ships and airplanes.

Thanks to the dark color of eggplants and their elongated shape, they make beautiful penguins, whales and... zebras.

From pumpkin

Pumpkins are simply created for children's creativity, because they are so bright, round, can be very large or miniature, their peel is easy to carve and remove the pulp.

A classic plot for pumpkin crafts that every girl will love is Cinderella’s carriage.

Pumpkins also make good houses and towers.

Using several pumpkins of different sizes you can make a large bear.

Want to make a fun pumpkin craft quickly and easily? Simply attach or cut out eyes above the tail of the fruit, create a mouth, then put a hat or other accessories on the pumpkin. You will get something like this funny head.

From cucumbers

From cucumbers you can make baby frogs or a frog princess and, of course, Gena the crocodile.

In combination with carrots, cucumbers make good caterpillars, centipedes, snakes and mini-mobiles.

Cucumbers will also help out if your craft needs legs.

From potatoes

To make potatoes easier to cut and more plastic, it is advisable to keep them warm or at room temperature for 3-5 days. After cutting the potatoes, soak them in ice water for 20-30 minutes to remove the starch - this will prevent the cuts from darkening. In general, you can create any figures from potatoes.

To pair with the cucumber crocodile Gena, you can make a potato Cheburashka.

From cauliflower

Cauliflower florets are ideal for making lambs and poodles.

From carrots

Carrots are bright and beautiful, but when cutting out parts they can break. To prevent this from happening and to make the fruits easier to cut, you should use wilted or artificially wilted carrots (keep the fruits in a warm place for a couple of days, and then restore them by soaking them in ice water).

The orange color makes carrots the best material for making giraffes, foxes and other “red” animals.

Here are a couple more cute carrot craft ideas for a kindergarten display.

Baskets with or without beautiful handles can be easily made from half a watermelon. Inside the basket you can put fresh flowers, a bouquet of autumn leaves, flowers cut from fruits and vegetables.

Here are some more cool watermelon and melon craft ideas.

From apples

As we have already mentioned, in order to prevent apple slices from darkening, they need to be left in a solution of citric acid for 15-20 minutes and periodically sprayed with it.

Crafts from fruits for kindergarten

You can also cut small pieces of different shapes from citrus peels using scissors or metal baking molds.

From slices and segments of orange, tangerine, lemon and other citrus fruits you can “paint” cute pictures and pictures.

From grapes

Grapes are well suited for making mini-crafts, such as people or caterpillars.

Grape canapes can be used as legs and arms, as mane, hair or hedgehog needles as in the photo below.

Grapes are also suitable for creating a dark or green background, as in this photo example.

From banana

To make crafts from bananas, choose firm and slightly unripe fruits, and to prevent their peel from turning black, do not put the fruit in the refrigerator, but store it at room temperature.

By the way, bananas make the best figurines of dachshunds and dolphins.

Fruit bouquets are a beautiful, colorful and very effective variety of ordinary bouquets. Such compositions include fresh fruits and berries, as well as decorative materials. A distinctive feature is that such compositions are edible. This is a wonderful gift for both women and men for any occasion.

What fruits can be used for a bouquet?

To make a fruit bouquet, you can use almost any fruit: citrus fruits, grapes, bananas, pineapple, even melon and watermelon. You can make a fruit bouquet not only from fruits, but also from berries. For thematic compositions, you can also use vegetables: tomatoes, cucumbers, cauliflower, cabbage leaves. You can also make combined compositions that include flowers and sweets. Thus, the ideas for creating such gifts are very diverse.

Before you start composing the composition, the fruits must be thoroughly washed. Sometimes you need to use a brush and soap to clean them well. If the composition is made up of fruit slices, then they must be peeled.

To prevent the fruits from darkening while you are composing the composition, sprinkle them with lemon juice

Some fruits darken anyway, even if you sprinkle them with lemon. For example, banana. In order for the components to better retain their color and shape, they are coated with gelatin: thanks to this, the fruit becomes glossy and at the same time remains edible.

Fruits and berries are very capricious material, so Only dense, hard fruits should be selected. You should not take overripe ones, they do not retain their shape well and will be difficult to thread on skewers. The most important thing is to choose only undamaged specimens, without any signs of damage. The bouquet should be beautiful and make you want to eat it.

What is the frame made of?

Fruit bouquets are made in baskets, glass containers, bowls, and low vases. The easiest way for beginners is use a spacious wicker basket. Remember that the composition must be firmly fixed, for which the basket is filled with a floral sponge or polystyrene foam. Another idea for creating a composition is use a large fruit as a frame. For example, it could be watermelon or melon. For autumn compositions it is appropriate to use a large pumpkin as a frame.

Wicker basket - frame for fruit bouquets

The composition can be made in a transparent vase. In this case, it is draped with bright fabric, ribbons or gift wrapping.

What can compositions be made from?

In addition to fruits and berries, bouquets are made from leaves, ribbons, threads, and sweets. Compositions can be thematic, for example, winter, and in this case it is appropriate to use spruce branches, as well as small Christmas tree decorations. Autumn compositions can be combined with seasonal vegetables and rowan branches. Christmas bouquets can be supplemented with cinnamon sticks and slices of candied tangerines. You can use candied fruits, as well as fruits covered in chocolate or spit.

When using chocolate in compositions, remember that it quickly melts in heat

Rules for creating fruit bouquets

Before creating a holiday creation, you need to consider some nuances:

  1. Berries and fruits must be of the same density.
  2. It is better to compose a composition from whole copies, rather than slices, since they retain their shape and appearance longer.
  3. If you decide to use soft fruits, then It’s better to secure it further: for example, under a ripe, soft berry, attach a piece of apple on a skewer.
  4. Bunches of grapes are especially difficult, so It is better to secure a sprig of grapes with a thin ribbon on a skewer.
  5. The tips of the skewers should not protrude from the bouquet. To hide them, use grapes or rowan berries.
  6. To save a composition after it is ready, wrap it carefully in cellophane.

Master class on making a bouquet of fruits with your own hands

To make an edible composition as a gift for the first time, you will need step-by-step instructions for beginners. For example, let's make a berry bouquet based on strawberries, grapes and plums.

Berry strawberry bouquet

To make your own strawberry bouquet at home, you will need large, hard berries. Wooden skewers will be used as a frame, as well as decorative leaves and branches, such as cherry branches. Select only large, intact, deep green leaves. Use a basket to create a composition. You will also need colorful wrapping paper for decoration, and a floral sponge to fill the basket.

Instructions:

  1. Attach the floral sponge to the bottom of the basket.
  2. Cover the sides with wrapping paper.
  3. Attach the berries and plums to skewers; for density at the bottom, strengthen the strawberries with apple slices.
  4. Separate a bunch of grapes into branches, and attach each branch to skewers using tape.
  5. Stick the skewers into the sponge one at a time. Do this evenly so that the composition is balanced in weight.
  6. Fill the entire basket in the same way.
  7. Fill the gaps between the skewers with leaves, twigs, you can also use flowers.

Using the same principle, you can make a bouquet of dried fruits with your own hands, only use dried fruits instead of berries. It is much easier for beginners to work with dried fruits, since they are easily strung on skewers, they are easier to attach than attaching fruits in a bouquet, and especially berries.

Pineapple bouquet

Another interesting idea is to use a large fruit, such as pineapple, instead of a basket. Of course, the composition will be more compact, but no less effective. To create such a gift, the lid is cut off from the pineapple, and then skewers with berries and pieces of fruit strung on them are stuck into it. You can pack a bouquet with pineapple in a transparent cellophane package, tied with a ribbon.

How to make a bouquet of flowers and fruits?

  1. Place a floral sponge or foam on the bottom of the basket.
  2. Place pieces of fruit or berries on skewers.
  3. Secure the skewers in a sponge.
  4. Don't forget to hide the tips of the skewers - you can do this with grape berries.
  5. Mask the gaps between the skewers with flowers.
  6. Decorate the basket with ribbons. You can complement the gift with a bottle of wine, or, if the gift is for a man, a bottle of cognac.

Photo of a bouquet of berries

If you want to make an unusual bouquet of berries and flowers without using a basket, then take long skewers and secure the fruits and berries on them. Collect these skewers, as well as flowers on stems of the same length, into a bouquet. Secure it first with tape and then with thick tape.

"Carriage for the Little Prince"
Mustafin Ilmir Ilnarovich, 3 years old, Mamadysh.

Do pumpkin carriage with your own hands? It's not difficult at all. All you need is a pumpkin, a comfortable sharp knife, and toy horses.

The process of making a carriage for the little prince:

Having taken the pumpkin, you need to take out its contents, then mark the windows on the pumpkin and draw a pattern on the surface of the “carriage”. Then, using a sharp knife, you can cut out a pattern in the carving style and, if desired, decorate it with gouache. Next, wheels are cut out of the squash (you can use ready-made ones, like mine) and attached to the pumpkin-carriage using toothpicks. Of course, without the prince and the horse, the carriage will be empty. Attach a children's toy horse to the carriage with a ribbon, and then to the carriage, in which we will place a prince, also made from a pumpkin. The fairytale pumpkin carriage is ready for adventure!
