How to make a light in the floor. Floor lighting: nuances of choice (22 photos). LED spot devices

Before we look at the most interesting ideas for floor lighting in an apartment, it is necessary to talk about what requirements should be followed.

So, the main requirements for floor lighting are:

  1. must be properly protected from moisture, because When cleaning wetly, there is a high probability that water will get inside the products. It is best to purchase sealed lamps with a degree of protection IP 67. Otherwise, take care of high-quality sealing yourself.
  2. The housing of the lighting elements must be protected from mechanical damage. Most lamps have a fragile base, so care must be taken not to accidentally break it.
  3. The light from the products should not dazzle the eyes. Most often, hidden floor lighting in apartments and houses is used so that you can easily navigate the room at night when the lights are off. If the light sources are bright, there will be no question of any comfort.
  4. Don't forget about. Give preference to energy-saving LED lamps.
  5. The material of the devices must be fireproof. Some light sources can heat up and melt the baseboard, causing it to spontaneously ignite.

Basic lighting options

We present to your attention an overview of the most popular options for lighting fixtures for floor lighting in apartments and houses.

Spotlights

The simplest and most popular is the floor. They are installed in specially created holes in floor tiles and laminate flooring. Most often, installation is used around the perimeter of the room. The advantage of spotlights is that the housing of the lamps is sealed and shock-resistant; moreover, the energy consumption of the lamps is minimal and their service life is long.

Based on its moisture-resistant properties, it should be noted that most often this option is used when creating. In addition, LEDs have proven themselves well for lighting the floor in the bedroom and hallway, because... allow you to create a decorative environment.

Neon lamps

A more classic version of hidden lighting is the use of neon lamps. They beautifully “flood” the floor and also have a soft luminous flux. The complete set consists of wires, lamps and special converters. All elements must be hidden in a special niche fixed along the contour of the room.

The advantages of this method are the long service life of the lamps (over 10 years) and a wide range of lighting shades (more than 100). The main disadvantages are the fragility of the flasks and the high cost of production. It should also be noted that installing neon lamps in the floor requires the mandatory assistance of a specialist, whose work will also cost you.

LED strips

The kit includes the strip itself and a power supply unit (PSU), which is individually selected based on the length of the entire luminous line and the number of LEDs. As in the case of neon lamps, the LED strip along with the power supply must be hidden in a specially prepared niche (for example, a polyurethane cornice).

By the way, instead of a cornice, you can also use a plinth with a cable channel. In this case, the tape is placed in the channel and thereby illuminates the room along its perimeter, as shown in the photo above.

Another alternative to neon lamps and LED strips is duralight. This product is a transparent PVC tube in which small LEDs are installed at equal distances from each other. Duralight also has a variety of color options that will give the interior of the apartment a soft but high-quality floor lighting.

The design includes an electrical plug that is plugged into a socket so that the product lights up. Be sure to choose two-wire duralight, because... the three-wire one has a complicated connection diagram that only a master can do. We talked about this in a separate article.

Something between an LED strip and a neon lamp - flexible neon. Its design is represented by a PVC cord in which diodes are installed. The only difference is that the bulbs emit neon light(!). The advantage over a neon lamp is that the flexible cord does not have to be laid along a straight section (as is the case with a lamp). In addition, you can easily install neon floor lighting in an apartment with your own hands.

Manufacturers provide a guarantee for continuous operation of the tape for 100,000 hours, but this figure can significantly decrease if used and installed incorrectly.

Light floor

This idea represents bright LED modules that can be installed not only around the perimeter, but throughout the entire area of the room. In the interior of an apartment or house, this type of lighting is rarely used, but is still not an exception.

The advantage of a light floor is its high mechanical and waterproofing properties, so this lighting option is most often used in nightclubs and other public institutions where special attention is paid to the interior. As you can see, self-leveling squares can create a certain light composition in the form of a chessboard or a rectangular path, which will look very original in the corridor.

Finally, I would like to pay a little attention to some tips that will allow you to choose and make the right lighting for the floor in your apartment:

  1. Choose modern devices that have dimmers (one of). These devices allow you to adjust the light intensity, which allows you not only to save on electricity, but also to create a certain atmosphere in the room.
  2. Together with the floor lighting at the bottom of the wall, organize the hidden space. In this case, you can install an LED strip under the handrails or on the steps (as shown in the picture). Remember that stairs are less safe for movement at night, so pay more attention to them.
  3. An alternative to installing special cornices is to install the tape under the front part of the furniture or inside the floor covering, if you choose transparent tiles made of high-strength glass (examples in the pictures).

  4. Remember that to install the backlight, the floor must be perfectly flat, otherwise the entire curvature of the surface will immediately appear when the lamp is turned on.
  5. To create bright light, use cords and ribbons of small diameter but high power. To create more diffuse lighting, use products with a larger diameter.
  6. During installation work, be sure to follow the connection diagram. If the contacts are connected incorrectly, the device may immediately fail when turned on. I don’t think it’s worth talking about the fact that during electrical installation it is necessary to turn off the electricity in the apartment.
  7. All LED strips and flexible neons have special places for shortening the line, familiarize yourself with them before cutting to the desired length. We talked about this in the corresponding article.
  8. Give preference only to quality products. Cheap Chinese products of dubious quality are not only a short-term pleasure, but also most often the cause of a fire.

Today, LED lighting is widely used to illuminate various types of apartment interiors - ceilings, niches, furniture.

In particular, floor lighting is becoming increasingly popular. Particularly relevant is lighting connected via motion sensors.

Such small-sized specimens are already freely sold in online stores. You can use them to automatically turn on the lighting so that your child is not afraid to walk alone in the dark at night and does not wake you up by turning on a bright chandelier in the bedroom.

And it will be very convenient to walk to the refrigerator yourself if you are hungry at night with such a luminous path. And if you install miniature motion sensors at regular intervals, you will get something akin to smart lighting.

In this article we will consider three ways to implement this type of lighting.

Floor lighting and baseboard with cable duct

In almost every apartment, where there is a floor covering, it doesn’t matter whether it is linoleum, tiles or laminate, there are always skirting boards. They can be made of different materials - wood, MDF, PVC.

Have different shapes and designs. All you need is to initially select those models that have a built-in cable channel.

It can be used to lay both low-current and 220V power wires. At the same time, without gating the walls.

This cable channel is closed from above with a protective cover and merges into the general background with the baseboard itself. Such skirting boards are sold in almost all construction stores.

To use them to illuminate the floor, find a brand where the cable channel will be closed not with a plain cover in the color of the product, but with a transparent or matte one.

For example, such as the Rico Leo skirting board.

The diffuser must be purchased separately. The factory length of the plinth and matte screen is 2.5 meters.

By the way, it is the combination of floor areas with and without lighting that looks very good. Where lighting is not needed, install the original non-transparent insert. And in other places you replace it with a transparent light filter.

Manufacturers always have a sufficient variety of colors in their assortment. So choosing a copy specifically for your interior will not be difficult.

And most importantly, all the necessary accessories are present:

  • stubs

Installation of the LED strip is quite simple and straightforward. Remove the adhesive layer from the back side and evenly stick the ice tape inside the cable channel track.

The most important thing is that all the connectors can easily fit there if you extend the LED strip not by soldering, but through them.

What are the features of this installation? Since this is a PVC baseboard, not aluminum, there is naturally no heat removal from it.

Therefore, it is impossible to glue bright powerful tape over 14 W/m here.

You can, of course, use aluminum tape as a heat-dissipating base. But it will still be a half-measure.

If in a room of approximately 20 m2, a medium-power SMD 5050 tape is used around the entire perimeter, you will get a backlight with more than 5000 Lumens. And this is neither more nor less, corresponds to the light from 4 hundred-watt light bulbs!

Why do you need such lighting for just one gender?

Low-power SMD 3528 brands are best suited. Such tapes consume 4.8 W/m. Even if you illuminate the entire room around the perimeter with such a product, you will need a power source of up to 100 W.

Such blocks are small in size and can easily be hidden in a closet and other secluded places. If we are talking about lighting a small hallway, then you can generally get by with some kind of adapter up to 40W, or a pack of batteries, which will also be hidden behind the baseboard.

And this whole thing will be turned on through a motion sensor, saving charge and battery capacity.

Thanks to the matte screen, the pixelation of the LEDs will be practically invisible, and the light will be uniform and subdued. If you buy a plug that is too light, the individual LEDs may be clearly visible.

In general, bright lighting is not required to illuminate the floor. The main task here is to outline the contours and highlight the interior beautifully.

If you look hard enough, you can certainly find similar skirting boards made of aluminum. But firstly, the price of such a product is much more expensive. Secondly, they are not very common, so you will have to order with delivery from another region.

Estimate the cost of delivery of such two-meter whips. In addition, there is a high probability of their damage. Loaders can easily bend or scratch them.

And also, if you have a less than ideal wall, a flexible PVC profile will fit there without any problems, which cannot be said about aluminum.

All the gaps and cracks will be easily visible. The PVC profile has elastic edges, which, on the contrary, will take the shape of the wall.

The main disadvantage that you will encounter with such lighting is the daily cleaning of the premises. You will have to sweep the floor every day, every other day.

Since the visibility of dust in low-level lighting appears instantly. Especially if you have pets.

All their traces and other traces of activity, previously not particularly distinguishable, will simply catch the eye.

Installation of skirting boards with LED lighting

What to do if you couldn’t find a similar brand of skirting board? In this case, you buy a regular one, but again with an opening for the cable channel.

Only instead of a non-transparent front plug, use milky acrylic plastic. You can order it in the required width and length from any advertising company that has its own sign production.

To install such a plinth with LED backlighting, you will need the following materials:

  • the baseboard itself with all the accessories for it

Determine the places where the baseboard will be located. Next, mount it to the wall using a hammer drill and dowel nails.

To prevent the dowel and nail head from short-circuiting the current paths of the LED strip in the future, it must be insulated with a piece of electrical tape.

After installation, the main problem is to find a place to hide the power supply and controller from the LED strip. Look for hidden boxes behind false walls or nearby cabinets.

Next, measure the tape to the required length by measuring the length of the baseboard with a tape measure and, if necessary, extend it using soldering or connecting clips.

The main thing to remember is the basic rule: if you have a backlight longer than 5 meters, each subsequent meters will have to be connected in parallel.

Otherwise, LEDs will not last long.

After all the preparatory work, mount the LED strip on the adhesive base and lead the wires to the installation location of the power supply.

Cover the cable channel with acrylic milky strips.

For greater strength, they can be glued at several points with special glue.

All that remains is to apply voltage from the power source and enjoy the backlight.

If you have a multi-colored RGB tape, then all the diagrams and the correct connection of wires to the controller and power supply can be found in the article below.

The presence of a remote control for such lighting certainly simplifies the task of controlling it.

Floor lighting with neon cord

But what to do if your baseboard is already installed, and even without a special cable channel inside. Is it possible in this case to provide LED floor lighting without any major repairs, replacements or alterations?

Of course you can, and very easily. To do this you will need a neon lighted wire.

It should come with an inverter according to the power of the wire. This inverter has a switch:

  • central position - off
  • left – the tape blinks
  • right – constantly shines

This little box can easily light a light up to 20 meters long!

It, in turn, is powered by 12 volts, so you will also need a power supply for it, or an assembly of batteries or a Power Bank.

There are also factory options with a USB connection.

Just be careful when ordering and choose a neon cord that has a skirt.

It is thanks to her that installation takes place without any glue, clips or dowels.
The total power of a 12-meter tape is only 1.5 W. Moreover, you can order it from our Chinese comrades in any length and any color.

By the way, thanks to such a small power, there is no need to buy a full-fledged power supply like with LED strips. It is enough to get by with a regular adapter (like phone chargers) plugged directly into the outlet.

A thin skirt allows you to fix the neon strip between the already installed baseboard and the floor.

There is, of course, another fastening option - between the baseboard and the wall. But installation into the base of the floor looks more aesthetically pleasing. Although here you are already your own boss.

To put the light in place, you simply push the skirt through the slot to the base of the glowing round wire and that’s it. No hassles with gluing LED strips, making and inserting acrylic screens, etc.

In the corners of the room, to make the installation look more beautiful, you will need to cut a small triangle from the skirt.

Before deciding how to design the floor lighting in a specific embodiment, you should understand what general requirements for lamps, their elements and light characteristics are appropriate in this case.

The floor is a place fraught with many dangers for lamps and puts forward special requirements for the characteristics of light radiation. In particular:

The level of moisture and dust protection of lamps mounted on the floor must be high. The fact is that the floor often has to be washed, so the likelihood of water getting into the lamp body is very high.

Dust also accumulates on the floor, posing a hazard to the electrical parts of the lighting fixture.

The lamp must have a strong body. This is for the case when the device is touched by feet or some heavy object. The lamp must be well protected from impacts.

The light should not be too bright. Otherwise, residents will feel discomfort. A level of illumination at which you can freely navigate in a dark room is sufficient.

Lamps must be economical. Energy-saving technologies will help save money for the apartment owner.

Fire safety. The lamp should not heat the baseboard or floor; this may result in spontaneous combustion.

Basic devices for floor lighting

As evidenced by photos of floor lighting, a variety of lamps, both modern and traditional, are used for this purpose.

LED spot devices

Spotlights are convenient to install, since it is not difficult for them to drill a corresponding niche in the laminate or even in wood.

They are shock-resistant, emit pleasant directional light, and consume a minimal amount of electricity.

It is difficult to find a replacement for spotlights in the bathroom, but they look appropriate in all other rooms. LEDs consume little electricity and last a long time.

Traditional neon lamp

The neon lamp is a long-known device. It produces soft light, creating the effect of filling the space. Naturally, a lamp is not only a lamp, but also converters, wires, etc. You need to make special niches for them.

A neon lamp lasts a long time, providing about a hundred shades of light.

But it is quite expensive and mechanically unstable. In addition, it is difficult to install such a lamp yourself; you will have to pay for the work of a specialist.

LED strips

The good thing about LED strip is that it can be mounted anywhere, you can choose the required length, color scheme and other characteristics. This tape does not overheat, lasts a long time, and has low energy consumption. It is easy to install yourself. If you use a controller, you can create changing digital compositions.

Some of the disadvantages: the tape requires a separate power supply, which needs to be hidden somewhere.

Duralight LED

LEDs are placed in a polyvinyl chloride tube in a certain order. This device is called LED duralight; one of its purposes is modern floor lighting.

In terms of originality and some other characteristics, Duralight can compete with spotlights and LED strips. Connecting the device does not require any special knowledge or skills.

Neon flexible

Flexible neon is a flexible translucent PVC tube containing LEDs. The word “neon” in the name is used because the device emits light similar in appearance to neon.

The obvious advantage is the installation of flexible neon in any configuration. Manufacturers claim that they guarantee the operation of their product without breakdown for one hundred thousand hours.

Floor made of LED elements

The idea of creating a lamp in the form of a floor element is reasonable, but has not yet gained sufficient popularity. But in vain, such devices can literally work wonders in terms of design.

Below are some tips to help organize floor lighting at a high level.

The use of dimmer switches will allow you to adjust the light intensity. This is a great way to create a cozy atmosphere.

The staircase lighting (if there is one) must be done. And not only for decorative purposes, but also for safety reasons.

The lighting should not be installed on an uneven floor. In this case, it will be difficult to achieve the required glow.

Bright lighting is created by ribbons and cords of small size but high power. If diffused light is needed, wide, low-power cords and ribbons are suitable.

The LED strip should not be cut just anywhere. It has special factory markings for these purposes.

Photos of floor lighting ideas

In modern design solutions you can often find the use of floor lighting. Such lighting allows us to solve a number of specific problems that arise for designers.

Such a system looks very worthy in halls or hallways. LED floor lighting will highlight the interior of the room and create a pleasant, warm atmosphere. The article will present various options for using lighting fixtures and an example of do-it-yourself installation.

Primary requirements

Lamps must be protected from moisture and water

Before we begin considering options for floor lighting, it is necessary to highlight the main requirements for lighting:

  1. Lamps must be under maximum protection from moisture and water. To do this, it is worth buying sealed lamps. If it is not possible to make such a purchase, then you will need to carry out the sealing yourself.
  2. The housing of any backlight must protect the lamps from damage.
  3. For comfortable operation, the light in the lamps should not be very bright.
  4. It is recommended to give preference to energy-saving devices, such as LED lamps.

All lamps used must be fireproof and must not become hot. Otherwise, they can ruin decorative elements (plinths, linoleum, etc.).

Main types of floor lighting

LED strips create spectacular graphic lighting

Modern technologies do not stand still and a fairly large number of different lamps have already been created that can be used for floors in houses and apartments.

Among them are:

  1. Spotlights.
  2. Neon lamps.
  3. LED strips.
  4. Flexible neon.
  5. LED duralight.
  6. Light floor.

For a detailed consideration of each lamp with its description, advantages and disadvantages, you should study the table:

Name Description Advantages Flaws
Spotlights The most popular lighting used for floors and ceilings. Installation is carried out in pre-prepared holes in the floor covering. As a rule, installation is done around the perimeter of the room. Often used in bathrooms. The lamp body is sealed and is not susceptible to damage. Quite an economical option that will last for many years. In some cases, the cost of lamps may be high.
Neon lamps Neon lamps have a soft glow and can be easily hidden. The operating period of the lamps is about 10 years. Customers can buy a variety of shades of light. Lamps are fragile and expensive. Floor installation work is very difficult to carry out without training and knowledge.
LED strips An alternative to a neon lamp. They are very popular today and are widely used not only for floor installation, but also for hidden ceiling lighting. They are easy to install without the help of a professional, are available in a wide variety of colors, and significantly save energy. Very long service life. For installation, you will need to make a special niche where the tape will be hidden.
LED duralight Duralight is a PVC tube in which diodes are mounted at equal distances. Structurally, the equipment already has a plug for the socket. There are a large number of colors to choose from, save energy. When choosing a three-wire duralight, installation will be difficult and without certain knowledge it will be impossible to independently connect.
Light floor Special modules with built-in LED lighting, somewhat reminiscent of tiles. Installation can be carried out both around the perimeter and in the center of the room. Most often used in cafes, bars and other non-residential premises. A high rate of damage and moisture, which is why modules are widely used in nightclubs. The high cost of the modules, as well as the complexity of installation.

Any indoor floor lighting should be made only from high-quality materials. This will be the key to long-term lighting operation and room safety.

Step-by-step instructions for installing floor lighting

For self-installation of floor lighting, it is recommended to use LEDs, which are installed directly before laying the tiles. If the tiles have already been laid, then it will be necessary to clean the seams and install diodes in them.

The work looks like this:

  1. LEDs are being purchased specifically for installation in floor coverings. Such devices have ready-made stands in the form of a cross, due to this they are securely installed between the tiles. The only disadvantage of such lighting is the high price. To reduce the cost, you can buy ordinary diodes and connect them with wires, and then treat them with silicone.
  2. All wires must be carefully connected and sealed using heat shrink.
  3. The functionality of the lighting is checked. It is better to hide the food itself and put it under the baseboards.
  4. You can lay lighting fixtures in the seams between the tiles.
  5. After laying, the wires are embedded in the glue and time is given for it to dry. It is recommended to re-check whether all diodes are lit.
  6. After checking, the seams are rubbed with a fugue and its remains are removed with a flat sponge. For more information about lighting installation, watch this video:

To prevent the LEDs from being damaged by normal movement around the room, they should be recessed between the seams. Their dome should be placed 1-2 mm lower than the tile itself.

Only then will they not get lost when walking.

Designs with Dimmer are convenient for regulating lighting intensity

Floor lighting in an apartment is quite easy, but for the correct choice of materials and installation you need to study a few tips from experienced people:

  1. When purchasing, it is better to give preference to modern materials that have Dimmers (type of switch), they will allow you to adjust the brightness and create the desired atmosphere.
  2. If the house has stairs, it is recommended to illuminate not only the flooring, but also the steps. To do this, you can use LED strips, which are installed under the handrails and in special niches on the steps.
  3. Instead of making boxes to hide lighting fixtures, you can use the cable space in the baseboards.
  4. If installation is carried out on the floor, then the base must be level, otherwise all defects will be visible when the lights are turned on.
  5. To add brightness, cords or ribbons of only small diameters, but as powerful as possible, are used. Large diameter materials are used for diffused light.
  6. During installation, you must use the connection diagram and adhere to safety rules. To learn how to illuminate the floor with LED strip, watch this current video:

As you can see, any type of floor lighting has its own characteristics. Any light source with its brightness, color scheme, etc. should be selected depending on the size of the room and its functionality. Additionally, you need to think about the effectiveness and harmony of such lighting.

Arranging lighting is one of the important stages in creating a comfortable and cozy atmosphere in an apartment or office, inside or outside a country house. If several decades ago lighting devices performed one single, main function (lighting the room), today they are used as decorative elements to design an original interior.

A variety of colorful colors, exclusive product shapes, several types of lamps. Lamps built into the floor have become the favorite devices of many designers.

These are unique devices, the existence of which other people might not know at all. For this reason, the presence of such a device in the floor of your home will create a real sensation and leave a lot of impressions on your guests.

Floor lighting

Today, people more often turn to designers, trying to find something unusual and extraordinary. Classic canons with standard lighting fixtures in the form of ceiling chandeliers and floor lamps are gradually becoming a thing of the past. We are also a little fed up with more modern recessed lamps for suspended ceilings and plasterboard structures. Instead, products were invented that were installed in walls or floors.

Structurally, we are talking about the same spotlights or panel lamps, which, depending on the quality, are used inside and outside the house for decorative lighting of the landscape and other parts of the yard. LED models remain the most popular.

The main benefits of installing any floor-recessed appliances are as follows:

  • creation of a unique and unique interior;
  • the ability to decorate and place accents on certain objects;
  • ideal lighting for garden areas and parts of the house where it is not possible to use other lighting devices;
  • organization of multi-level lighting;
  • ideal solution for night lighting.

Often these devices are used to illuminate the stairs of a house or paths in a garden.

Add to this the minimum dimensions, complete immersion in the walls or floor (tenants of the house will not trip over them). With the advent of such devices, the possibilities of creating stylish lighting without the use of expensive equipment have significantly expanded.

Types of devices

There are several criteria for classifying recessed floor luminaires. They may differ from each other in design, light sources and direction.

It is customary to divide devices into the following classes:

  1. Spotlights. Both LED and halogen lamps can be used.
  2. LED products with diffused glow.
  3. Spotlights.

Spot lighting devices are often used in sales areas and administrative offices. If several conditions are met, they can be installed on the floor. Among the characteristics, we note a bright luminous flux directed upward and located perpendicular to the floor, or to an object on which attention should be focused.

The effect created by these floor lighting devices is not always comfortable, as it can have a negative effect on the visual organs. At home, the devices are practically never used. The need for their use arises only if you need to illuminate spacious and long corridors, basements or garages.

Floor recessed luminaires with halogen lamps as a power source are used to illuminate floor niches and various sections in the house. They can often be seen in entrance and passage areas. In most cases, they do not carry any functional load and are used as decorative elements. Nevertheless, they can find practical applications - for example, use them as direction indicators at industrial facilities.

Floodlight equipment is installed in bathrooms to create a concentrated glow. They are also used in bedrooms with a podium and a bed on top. The main advantage of lamps of this type is the ability to change and adjust the direction of the light flux.

LED floor lighting involves the use of semiconductor equipment with modern technologies. The use of the RGB function means that the flexible semiconductor can glow in different colors. It also supports the creation of various special effects formed by changing the intensity of the light flux.

Requirements for floor lamps

When choosing luminaires built into the floor, you need to remember the features of their operation and the requirements:

  1. Level of loads (cross-country ability, etc.). This parameter is equated to the loads exerted on the floor surface.
  2. Lamp power. The value of the physical parameter depends on the floor design and the number of built-in devices. To reduce the power of operating lamps, it is enough to increase the total number of devices.
  3. Tightness. The floor of any room requires wet cleaning. For this reason, products built into the floor must have a durable, sealed housing with a high level of protection against moisture.
  4. Electrical safety. Since such equipment will constantly be stepped on by people, the highest requirements for electrical/fire safety are imposed.

Important! The minimum permissible load level must be equal to the weight of the human body. Give preference to devices with durable, unbreakable glass. If you need to organize decorative lighting for borders in gardens or steps on stairs, then you can use standard models. Floor-standing ones are more expensive, but in this case the load on the devices is not so high.

Finally, don't forget about the appearance of the lighting fixture. When choosing a device, it is important to consider the style in which the room, veranda or garden is decorated. These can be classic, modern and other products.

An important parameter is the shape of the equipment. Square or rectangular luminaires are great for stair treads and landscaping, while round luminaires are ideal for domestic use.

At the same time, devices that blend into or contrast with the overall interior look good. The choice depends on individual preferences.

Advantages and disadvantages of floor lamps

First, let's look at the main advantages of floor lamps used in domestic and outdoor conditions:

  1. A huge variety of choices in colors, materials and shapes. Thanks to this, you can always choose lighting fixtures that best fit into the design of the room or the façade design of the yard.
  2. A high level of protection against the penetration of dust and moisture, due to which the devices easily cope with their task when used outdoors and near bodies of water. Just remember the dome lamps installed in swimming pools. In their case, multi-level protection against moisture is used.
  3. Resistance to mechanical influences, including shocks, and loads. Made from materials and paint coatings that protect the surface from scratches and dents. Suitable for placement along paths where people walk.
  4. Various color options. As mentioned above, when using LED light sources, RGB technology is supported with all kinds of lighting effects.
  5. Many fixtures can be combined with dimmers, amplifiers and diffusers to enhance design and functionality.

Still, there are several disadvantages of these devices. The main one is related to the high cost of products. This is due to the use of high-strength materials and the requirements for loads and tightness. Any LED source requires additional electrical elements that increase the durability of the device. This fact also affects the formation of value.

In addition, there is a high probability of damage to the lighting fixture when subjected to a strong impact. Unbreakable glass is a flexible concept. Typically, floor lamps are manufactured so that they can withstand everyday loads, which include the fall of small objects and a weak kick. If a massive person jumps on the lamp, it may not withstand the pressure and crack (or fail).

How to install

By performing high-quality and technologically correct installation, you can increase the service life of any lighting equipment. At the same time, do not forget that the final result is also influenced by how correctly you selected the lamps built into the floor.

To carry out self-installation, follow these steps:

  • calculate the number of lamps needed to create the required level of lighting in the apartment or in the yard;
  • mark the floor surface, indicating the places where the lamps will be located;
  • cut holes at the designated points, the diameter of which will be sufficient to accommodate the devices (a drill with a special bit will do);
  • make a groove in the floor and stretch a cable, for fixing which you can use asbestos.

If you want to avoid additional costs, it is advisable to make holes and lay electrical wiring during repair work. In the case of a planned renovation, think through every little detail and what you would like to get as a final result.

By the way! The holes will not always be round, because lamps come in square, rectangular, star-shaped, etc.

Let's continue:

  • install the lighting box into the hole made - the procedure is similar to installing a socket;
  • using fasteners or asbestos, secure the box in the hole and connect the rest of the lamp to it;
  • place the product body in the niche and screw in the light bulb you are using (usually LED);
  • Install the protective glass or housing cover.

The main difficulties when installing recessed luminaires arise during the preparation of the holes in which the devices are placed and the laying of cables.

LED Embedded Systems

LED lighting fixtures integrated into floors or walls offer additional benefits. They are directly connected to the light source. LED diodes provide:

  • durability of operation;
  • minimum level of energy consumption;
  • variety of color solutions;
  • presence of special effects;
  • increased operational safety;
  • ease of installation.

The disadvantage in this case is obvious - the presence of LEDs further increases the already high cost of the product. Having carefully studied the advantages described above, we can come to the conclusion that any costs for the purchase and installation of LED floor lamps quickly pay for themselves due to economical and durable operation.

LED floor light sources are divided into several types. These can be luminaires built into the floor, a flexible LED strip installed around the perimeter of the illuminated room or object, and duralight (a device that provides dynamic lighting).

To organize all of the listed lighting methods, they are guided by a standard diagram, which indicates the required number of LED products and the module used to control them. By design, devices built into the floor are point-type and contain a housing with a reflector.

The rest of the lighting devices in this class are produced in the form of a flexible strip and necessarily support RGB technology. Moreover, the cost of multi-colored lighting around the entire perimeter of the room is not as high as it was a few years earlier. The same LED strip is used for colorful lighting of stair steps.

Duralight is a flexible cable made of polyvinyl chloride into which colored LEDs are pressed. A very convenient product both for installation and operation. To ensure the functioning of such an original backlight, you need to lay out the cable in a suitable place and connect one of its ends to an industrial outlet (220 V).

It is noteworthy that duralight can be divided into small sections (on its surface there is a marking with the image of “scissors” indicating the places of permissible cuts). This is made possible by the fact that several groups of series-connected LEDs are connected exclusively in parallel to each other.

Lamps built into the floor will allow you to create unique and original lighting at home or in the garden. The cost of the devices is quite high, but when choosing LED products, the costs quickly pay for themselves due to minimal energy consumption. It is important to select the right models and perform technologically correct installation in compliance with safety regulations.
